James Austin Johnson, the Saturday Night Live cast member known for playing Donald Trump, posted a Trump impression reacting to Trump’s guilty verdict on May 30, 2024. TheWrap reported that the comic voice complained about the judge and veered into everyday subjects, including pasta. The reported excerpt is only a sample, not a full transcript.
What Johnson’s post-verdict impression covered
TheWrap’s May 30, 2024 report described Johnson’s social-media post as a reaction to the verdict. In the excerpt quoted by the outlet, Johnson’s Trump character grumbled about the judge and riffed on topics such as pasta. The available report does not provide a complete transcript, so those details should not be taken as a full account of the bit.
This was a social-media reaction, not an SNL broadcast. TheWrap reported the post on the day of the verdict: TheWrap’s report on Johnson’s impression.
Which trial the reaction followed
On May 30, 2024, a New York State Supreme Court jury found Donald Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said the records had been used to conceal a scheme related to the 2016 election; that description is the prosecution’s characterization. The verdict and the impression are separate: Johnson’s performance was satire, not a court record or legal finding.

In remarks announcing the verdict, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. said the jury reached a unanimous conclusion beyond a reasonable doubt that Trump was guilty of the 34 counts. The office’s announcement says the jury heard testimony from 22 witnesses and considered documentary and other evidence. Don’t confuse it with the earlier SNL courthouse sketch
Johnson also played Trump in “Trump Courthouse Cold Open,” an SNL sketch published January 20, 2024. The official description says the character speaks to the media after appearing in court for the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial. That sketch predates the May verdict by several months; it is not Johnson’s post-verdict social-media impression.
