Adult Swim published the official Smiling Friends Season 2 trailer on April 9, 2024, ahead of a scheduled double premiere on May 12 at midnight. The trailer description said the episodes would arrive on Max the next day. A separate surprise premiere episode had already aired on April 1 as part of Adult Swim’s April Fools’ programming.
When did the Season 2 trailer come out?
Adult Swim’s verified YouTube channel published “Smiling Friends Season 2 (OFFICIAL TRAILER)” on April 9, 2024. Its description announced a May 12 double premiere at midnight and said the episodes would be available on Max the following day. Those details describe the original 2024 release plan, not the current Max catalog or availability in every region.
When did Season 2 premiere?
There were two distinct premiere events in 2024, which explains why both April 1 and May 12 are associated with the season.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| April 1, 2024 | Adult Swim unexpectedly aired a Season 2 premiere episode during its April Fools’ programming. |
| May 12, 2024, at midnight | The scheduled Season 2 return and double premiere on Adult Swim, announced by the network. |
| May 13, 2024 | The next-day Max availability stated in the April 9 trailer description. |
The surprise April 1 episode did not replace the announced May 12 return. Adult Swim’s April 1 press release described the surprise programming: three puppet-recreated episodes followed by the Season 2 premiere, “Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4k (Anniversary Director’s Cut).” The same release announced the planned May 12 return.
