Screenwriter Chris Brancato says he wrote a draft, but he does not know whether the film will be made. Robert Downey Jr. has also said that producer Susan Downey will have the last word.
Is Sherlock Holmes 3 confirmed?
No. Recent comments indicate that the project has been discussed and that a draft exists, but they do not establish that the film has been greenlit or entered production. In a July 2026 interview with The Direct, screenwriter Chris Brancato said he did not know whether it would happen. He pointed to Robert Downey Jr.’s busy schedule as one factor and said the outcome remained uncertain.
Downey made a similar distinction in comments reported by the Associated Press in May 2026: “I don’t know. People are talking about it. She’s the producer and will have the last word. It’s the greatest mystery.” The statement, carried in an Associated Press video via Yahoo, confirms discussion, not a production decision.
Is there a Sherlock Holmes 3 script?
Brancato said, “Oh, yes, yes. I wrote a draft.” That is evidence of a screenplay draft, not confirmation that it is the final or approved shooting script. Brancato also said he was hopeful the movie would be made but could not say whether it would happen.

Does Sherlock Holmes 3 have a release date?
No confirmed release date appears in the latest cited updates. Older announced dates were not fulfilled, so they should not be treated as current scheduling information. Neither Brancato’s comments nor Downey’s May 2026 remarks provide a new date or a filming timetable.
Who might be in the cast or behind the film?
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are associated with the earlier films and the proposed sequel, but the recent comments are not a formal announcement that either actor is committed to a current production. Dexter Fletcher was previously reported as attached as director; the latest updates cited here do not verify whether that attachment still stands.
Law expressed enthusiasm in a comment from 2024 quoted by The Direct in its July 2026 report: “There’s a great will to make it.” He also noted that the plan had been evolving for years. That expresses interest, not a commitment to begin production.
