Ice Cube’s fourth Friday movie is moving forward under the reported title Last Friday. Variety reported in April 2025 that Cube had a deal with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to write and star; in July 2026, Cube said he and Mike Epps had turned in a script. No release date has been announced, and Chris Tucker’s involvement has not been confirmed.
What is the fourth Friday movie called?
The reported title is Last Friday. Variety reported on April 3, 2025, that Ice Cube had reached a deal with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema to write and star in the film. New Line president and chief creative officer Richard Brener was the studio executive Variety identified as confirming a deal to develop it; Variety said it independently confirmed the news. The title is apt for a fourth installment, but “perfect” is a matter of opinion, not an official studio tagline. Variety’s report describes the project as the next entry in the series.
Where does Last Friday fit in the series?
It would be the fourth film in the franchise, following the three releases in this order:
| Film | Release year |
|---|---|
| Friday | 1995 |
| Next Friday | 2000 |
| Friday After Next | 2002 |
| Last Friday | Fourth film in development; no release date announced as of July 2026 |
What is the latest development update?
On July 17, 2026, Ice Cube reportedly said he and Mike Epps had submitted the script. AllHipHop published the update on July 23, quoting Cube: “Me and Mike Epps, we just turned in the script to ‘Last Friday,’” AllHipHop reported. A submitted script is progress, but it does not establish that filming has begun or that a release date has been set.

The project has been discussed publicly for years. In June 2024, Cube said, “We finally got some traction with Warner Bros.” in an interview reported by TheWrap. Variety’s April 2025 report then described a deal for Cube to write and star. In December 2022, Cube had said Warner Bros. controlled distribution and that he wanted the studio to let him control the movie. That was his description of the rights situation at the time; the later deal report does not disclose the full contract terms. Cube’s 2022 comments therefore should not be read as a complete account of the current arrangement.
Are Mike Epps and Chris Tucker in Last Friday?
Mike Epps’s involvement has been reported, and the July 2026 script update specifically says he and Cube turned in the screenplay together. A May 2026 ComingSoon report said Cube and Epps had confirmed they would return. ComingSoon’s May 18 report also said Chris Tucker was interested and in discussions, but it did not report a finalized deal or confirmed casting announcement. Tucker’s participation should therefore be treated as unresolved, not assured.

When will Last Friday come out, and what is it about?
No release date had been announced in the July 2026 report. ComingSoon’s May coverage said filming was expected later in 2026, but that was an expectation reported at the time, not confirmation that production started. A filming target alone does not establish when the movie will reach theaters.
The May report also said the story was expected to address neighborhood gentrification. That is an early plot expectation, not a confirmed final synopsis. Until the filmmakers or studio share a finished synopsis, the premise should be described as preliminary.
