What does Dakota Johnson’s house look like?
A living room that opens to the outdoors
In Architectural Digest’s 2020 feature, the living room’s striking front wall is made up of oversized doors. Opposite, floor-to-ceiling windows open toward a lap pool, bringing the garden into view. Johnson summed up the effect: “It’s like a tree house. On a boat.” Wood, concrete and broad glass openings give the home its distinctive balance of natural materials and openness.

A green kitchen and concrete bathroom
The kitchen cabinetry was painted Benjamin Moore’s Alligator Alley. The 2020 feature also named a Viking range, hood and dishwasher, plus a Sub-Zero refrigerator; those are details recorded at the time, not confirmation that the same appliances remain in the house. In the primary suite, wood flooring replaced upstairs cork that could not be salvaged during the renovation. The bathroom uses the same concrete as the downstairs rooms. Johnson joked of its double sinks, “Also, I think the key to a healthy relationship is double sinks.”
Personal objects and collected furnishings
The rooms mix vintage and custom furnishings with objects that make the house feel personally inhabited: a vintage Wurlitzer piano, built-in bookshelves in Johnson’s office, personal art and memorabilia, and a record collection. These details are part of the home’s individual character; they do not establish that matching pieces are available to buy.

Who designed Dakota Johnson’s home?
Architect Carl Maston designed the house. Interior-design studio Pierce & Ward helped Johnson carry out her renovation and decorating wish list. In the 2020 Architectural Digest feature, cofounder Emily Ward described working with Johnson on mood boards and fabric selections. Ward also explained that the upstairs cork flooring could not be saved, leading to the wood flooring in the primary suite.
Johnson described the value of having a settled home base in the feature: “I thought it would be healthy to have a base,” she said, adding, “This place is my anchor.” Architectural Digest noted that producer Ryan Murphy had owned the property before Johnson.
