The Shazam update behind the “better Spotify and Apple Music syncing” headline was version 18.10, released on March 19, 2025—not a new August 2026 release. Its useful change was that songs recognized through iPhone or iPad Music Recognition in Control Center, Siri, and Shortcuts could join Shazam’s My Shazam Tracks playlist in Apple Music or Spotify, alongside Shazam app discoveries. The feature remains useful, but it adds songs to a playlist; it does not mirror your music libraries in both directions.
What Shazam version 18.10 changed
Before this change, the service playlist was most closely associated with songs identified inside the Shazam app. Apple’s version 18.10 release notes extended the playlist integration to songs recognized through Music Recognition in Control Center, Siri, and Shortcuts. Those discoveries could be added to My Shazam Tracks in Apple Music or Spotify.
That matters if you usually identify a song by tapping the Music Recognition control on your iPhone or asking Siri, rather than opening Shazam first. The recognition method can differ, while the resulting playlist gives you one place to find supported matches in your chosen music service.

The change was released on March 19, 2025. By August 2026, Shazam had moved to the 26.x version series; the App Store listing showed version 26.14.1 in the available search results. The 2025 release notes establish when this syncing improvement arrived, so it should not be described as a newly introduced 2026 feature.

What it does—and what it does not
Apple describes the service connection as automatically adding identified songs to a My Shazam Tracks playlist. Think of it as one-way playlist population, not a full synchronization system.
- It can: add supported Shazam identifications to the connected Apple Music or Spotify playlist, including the Control Center, Siri, and Shortcuts recognitions named in the release notes.
- It does not: mirror your entire music library or keep Shazam history and a streaming service in two-way sync.
- It does not: transfer an Apple Music playlist to Spotify, or copy playlist edits, likes, downloads, and deletions between services.
- It does not: replace a streaming subscription or guarantee that every identified recording is available in your region.
Apple’s current Shazam and music-service support guide also describes automatic additions to a service playlist, not a bidirectional library mirror. Shazam identification and history are separate from access to full playback in a streaming service.

Turn on music-service syncing
iPhone or iPad
- Open the Shazam app and tap Settings.
- For Apple Music, turn on Sync your songs to Apple Music and follow any authorization prompts.
- For Spotify, choose the Spotify connection option in Shazam, then approve the connection in Spotify.
Apple says Apple Music can connect automatically for subscribers on iPhone or iPad; Spotify requires connecting the account through Shazam. App labels and prompts can vary with software version, account state, and region. You need the relevant music app and account, and Apple Music playback or playlist features may require a subscription.
Android
- In Shazam, swipe to Library and tap Settings.
- Under Music app preference, enable Sync Shazam Library to Apple Music or Sync Shazam Library to Spotify, as appropriate.
- Complete any account authorization or setup prompts.
Android users may also choose a default music app under Music app preference. The available choices depend on regional support and, in some cases, which music apps are installed. Apple Music may offer an account or trial setup flow if no active subscription is detected. See Apple’s regional support instructions for additional details.

Find the playlist and refresh it if needed
After connecting a service, look for My Shazam Tracks in Apple Music or Spotify. If the playlist is missing songs or appears stale, try the steps Apple listed with version 18.10:
- Open Shazam settings and turn off the song-sync option.
- Turn it back on, and reauthorize the service if prompted.
- If you use Spotify, close and reopen Spotify so it can refresh the playlist.
Apple presented the toggle as a way to re-sync previously discovered songs. It is worth trying if you enabled the feature after building a Shazam history, but it is not a guarantee that every old entry will return. Unmatched, unavailable, deleted, or duplicate records may not produce a usable playlist entry.

If a particular song is still absent, check that you are viewing the same Apple Music or Spotify account that Shazam connected. A recording may be unavailable in your country, appear under a different version or edit, or have been removed from the service catalog. An expired authorization or a playlist that has not refreshed can also explain the gap. These are likely troubleshooting causes, not proof that Shazam failed to recognize the song.
For Apple Music, Apple says Shazam can add a song to another Apple Music playlist from within Shazam on iPhone or iPad. If you cannot add it to an existing playlist, Apple advises checking that Sync Library is enabled. That setting is distinct from Shazam’s connection to the My Shazam Tracks playlist.

iCloud sync is different
Shazam has two separate kinds of syncing that are easy to confuse:
- iCloud sync keeps Shazam history synchronized between supported Apple devices and helps preserve that history.
- Apple Music or Spotify sync adds recognized songs to the connected service’s My Shazam Tracks playlist.
Turning on iCloud sync alone does not populate Spotify or Apple Music. If your goal is to keep a history across Apple devices, use the iCloud option; if you want discoveries in a streaming playlist, connect and enable the relevant music-service option too.
Who benefits most?
The 18.10 improvement is especially useful if you identify music from Control Center, ask Siri, or use a Shortcut and want those results collected alongside app-based Shazams. It also saves a step for listeners who already use Apple Music or Spotify and want a running discovery playlist.
If you only want to identify songs or keep a Shazam history, you do not need to subscribe to a streaming service just for this feature. If you expect a full transfer of existing playlists or continuous two-way synchronization, this is not that tool.
Current status: The broader playlist integration described here dates to Shazam 18.10 in March 2025. Later 26.x versioning does not change the historical release date of that feature.
