No—the free Roku offer has ended. In the United States, all nine episodes of Severance Season 1 streamed on The Roku Channel without a subscription through January 19, 2025. As of August 18, 2026, Roku’s current listing points viewers to the Apple TV app and says a subscription is required.
What the Roku offer included
The January 2025 promotion offered the complete first season—not just a pilot or preview. The nine episodes were “Good News About Hell,” “Half Loop,” “In Perpetuity,” “The You You Are,” “The Grim Barbarity of Optics and Design,” “Hide and Seek,” “Defiant Jazz,” “What’s for Dinner?” and “The We We Are.” Roku said viewers did not need an Apple TV+ subscription to watch during the offer. In its Q1 2025 shareholder letter, Roku described the promotion as free without advertisements. That applied to this specific promotion, not necessarily to other Roku Channel programming.
When it was free
Roku announced the offer on January 10, 2025, and made Season 1 available through January 19. The timing led into Season 2’s January 17 premiere on Apple TV+. Roku also ran a related fan experience from January 17 to 19, featuring a Season 2 preview, character introductions and behind-the-scenes material.
The campaign included a separate offer of three months of Apple TV+ for eligible new subscribers. That offer ended February 3, 2025, at 11 p.m. ET; it was not a continuing free option. Roku’s announcement set out the promotion and trial terms.

How to watch Severance now
Roku’s current U.S. title listing shows Severance through the Apple TV app on Roku with a subscription required. The fact that the app is available on Roku devices does not mean the series is currently free on The Roku Channel. The Apple TV app listing in Roku’s Channel Store also identifies subscription access to Apple Originals.
There is no verified current free Roku offer for the show in the sources available here. If you are considering Apple TV+, check the service’s current plan and renewal terms before signing up; do not rely on old pages advertising the expired trial. Availability can differ outside the United States, and this promotion was explicitly described for the U.S. market.

Why Roku and Apple teamed up
The arrangement gave viewers a way to catch up on the series just before its second season, while putting Apple TV+ in front of Roku’s audience. The fan experience and trial offer provided a route from the free first season to Apple’s paid service. Roku later said the campaign expanded the show’s reach and helped drive engagement and first-time Apple TV+ subscribers, but it did not publish a precise subscriber figure in the cited account. That makes the promotional funnel clear; it does not establish a quantified causal result.

A spoiler-free reminder of the series
Severance follows employees at Lumon Industries who undergo a procedure that separates their work memories from their personal memories. Each person’s work and outside selves have different knowledge of their lives, and the mystery around Lumon and the procedure unfolds across the season. It is a serialized story, so watching the nine episodes in order matters. The Season 2 preview shown as part of the Roku fan experience was promotional material and may assume context from Season 1.

Then and now
- Then: All nine episodes of Season 1 were free on The Roku Channel in the U.S. through January 19, 2025, with no subscription required; Roku described the promotion as ad-free.
- Now: Roku lists the series through the Apple TV app with a subscription required. The old free-streaming offer and the limited Apple TV+ trial have both expired.
Old search results and social posts may still say that Severance is free on Roku. They refer to that brief 2025 window, not a current standing offer.
