Several ‘Scooby-Doo’ Movies Were Pulled From Max After the ‘Looney Tunes’ Disappearance

Max removed eight animated Scooby-Doo films in March 2025, during the same broader period in which classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts disappeared from the service. Three additional Scooby-Doo titles were reported as scheduled to leave on March 31.

The removals do not prove that Warner Bros. Discovery permanently withdrew the films from distribution. They show that the titles were no longer available on Max at that time, while other viewing options—including Tubi, digital stores, libraries, and physical media—must be checked title by title.

The eight Scooby-Doo films removed in March 2025

Reports published on March 16–17, 2025 identified the following animated films as having left Max. The list includes both older direct-to-video favorites and newer crossover or original productions.

Type Title Year Reported status
Film Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island 1998 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost 1999 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo! Pirates Ahoy! 2006 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King 2008 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo 2009 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare 2010 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave & the Bold 2018 Removed in March 2025
Film Scooby-Doo! and the Gourmet Ghost 2018 Removed in March 2025

The removal was reported alongside the disappearance of two Tom and Jerry films and a larger batch of classic Warner animation. The list was reported by ComicBook and corroborated by additional coverage.

Three more titles were scheduled to leave on March 31

Separate from the eight films already reported as removed, three other Scooby-Doo programs were listed as departing Max on March 31, 2025:

  • The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries (1984), a television series
  • The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo (1985), a television series
  • Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase (2001), a feature-length film

This distinction matters. The March removals were not one uniform batch of films, and “the Scooby-Doo titles pulled from Max” can refer either to the eight films identified in mid-March or to this later group as well.

What happened to Looney Tunes?

The Scooby-Doo removals arrived during a longer retreat of classic Warner animation from Max:

  • Late 2022: More than 250 classic Looney Tunes episodes were reportedly removed.
  • November 2023: Max announced that additional Looney Tunes material would leave, then said the titles had been included in error and that the classic shorts would remain. TheWrap reported on the correction.
  • March 13 and 15, 2025: Further batches of classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts were reported to have disappeared.
  • March 2025: The Scooby-Doo films and two Tom and Jerry titles were reported removed during the same wider catalog reshuffling.

Not every Looney Tunes-related program was treated identically. At the time, reports indicated that some modern or spin-off programming—including Baby Looney Tunes, New Looney Tunes, Looney Tunes Cartoons, and Tiny Toons Looniversity—remained, although individual titles could also have their own scheduled departure dates. “All classic Looney Tunes” therefore needs to be understood as a date- and catalog-specific description, not a permanent statement about every Warner animation property.

Were the Scooby-Doo films removed because of Looney Tunes?

The timing strongly connects the events, but the available reporting does not establish a title-by-title causal explanation from Warner Bros. Discovery.

What is confirmed: classic Looney Tunes shorts, selected Scooby-Doo films, and Tom and Jerry titles left Max during the same broader period.

What is not confirmed: Warner Bros. Discovery did not publicly say that the eight Scooby-Doo films were pulled specifically because of a particular Looney Tunes licensing decision.

The most defensible interpretation is that the films were part of wider catalog management affecting animation, children’s programming, and library content. A general explanation from Max said that titles are available for limited periods and that the service continually adjusts its lineup. That explains the platform’s rotating-catalog model, but it is not a title-specific confirmation that a particular license expired.

Later analysis has placed the Looney Tunes decision within Warner’s broader financial and strategic turbulence, including changes to children’s programming and the treatment of animated projects. That context helps explain why viewers saw several animation removals together, but it should not be turned into an unsupported claim that the company no longer values animation. TheWrap’s retrospective provides that broader context.

Are the movies gone forever?

There is no evidence in the cited reporting that Warner Bros. Discovery permanently withdrew these films from sale or licensing. A streaming removal means that a title is unavailable on that service at that time; it does not automatically mean that the film has vanished from digital retailers, DVD, Blu-ray, libraries, or future streaming deals.

The films had moved in and out of Max before, and no return date was established. Their eventual return is possible, but it should not be presented as announced or guaranteed.

Where can viewers look for the films and related shows?

Free, ad-supported streaming

Tubi is the clearest free alternative identified in the available material. Its official Kids Classics catalog lists The Scooby-Doo Show, Looney Tunes, and The Looney Tunes Show. Tubi corporate listings have also identified shorter Scooby-Doo specials including Scooby-Doo! Mecha Mutt Menace, Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Scarecrow, and Scooby-Doo! Ghastly Goals!.

Those confirmed listings do not establish that all eight removed feature-length films are on Tubi. Specials are also not substitutes for the films: they are shorter releases with different runtimes and availability. Check the individual title page and your territory before planning a viewing.

Digital rental or purchase

Check the individual listings on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and Google TV. Availability, price, resolution, subtitles, captions, dubbed audio, and ownership terms can differ by country and account.

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, for example, has been promoted by Warner as digitally available, but the cited official material is historical and does not verify its current retailer, price, or availability in every market. Treat digital availability as title-specific rather than assuming that every removed film is offered everywhere.

DVD and Blu-ray

For viewers who want access that is less dependent on streaming licenses, physical media may be the most durable option. Search current inventory through retailers such as the Warner Bros. Shop or Amazon’s Movies & TV section. Older direct-to-video films may be out of print, available only secondhand, or offered in DVD rather than Blu-ray editions.

Libraries and other services

Library platforms such as Kanopy or Hoopla may carry individual titles in some areas, but availability depends on the participating library system and local licensing. These services should be checked by title, not assumed to contain the full franchise.

Official YouTube material

The official WB Kids YouTube channel hosts clips and promotional material. A channel listing or search result is not proof that a complete removed film is legally available there, so confirm the individual video, runtime, uploader, and territory before treating it as a full-film replacement.

How to verify availability without being misled

  1. Search the exact title. Distinguish films from series and short specials.
  2. Set the correct country. A U.S. listing may differ from one visible in another territory.
  3. Confirm the format. Make sure the page offers the complete film rather than clips, trailers, or an episode.
  4. Check the current date. Old search results and stale aggregator pages can remain visible after a license changes.
  5. Review the payment model. “Free” may mean free with ads, while another listing may require a subscription or a separate rental.
  6. Check accessibility details. Look for HD or SD resolution, captions, subtitles, and language tracks.

Availability aggregators such as JustWatch can help identify current U.S. listings, but the final check should be made on the retailer or streaming service’s own title page.

What this means for Max subscribers

Max still has a changing relationship with the Scooby-Doo library. Evidence available for this article does not provide a reliable, current inventory of every Scooby-Doo title remaining on Max, so it would be misleading to publish a definitive “what remains” list. The franchise may continue to appear in the catalog even as individual films and series rotate out.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The practical lesson is simple: a Max subscription provides access to a catalog, not permanent ownership of every title that appears in search. If a particular film matters to your family, check its current transactional or physical-media options instead of assuming it will remain included indefinitely.

Tubi’s expanding Scooby-Doo connection

Tubi’s role is also developing beyond its existing catalog. In May 2026, the service announced a new anime-adventure series, Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, with Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard attached to reprise their roles. That announcement makes Tubi an increasingly relevant home for new and selected classic-related Scooby-Doo programming, but it is not evidence that the eight films removed from Max returned to Tubi.

For casual viewing, Tubi is worth checking first because it is free with advertising. For reliable long-term access, compare a current digital purchase with a DVD or Blu-ray copy. Neither route guarantees that every title will be available, but both avoid relying entirely on Max’s rotating lineup.
