1. Grey’s Anatomy: the essential Eric Dane performance
Best for: viewers who know Dane as “McSteamy” or want his most recognizable role.
#1 Best Overall
- The world's favorite Bad Boys are back with their iconic mix of edge-of-your seat action and outrageous comedy but this time with a twist: Miami's finest are now on the run.
Dane plays Dr. Mark Sloan, the charismatic plastic surgeon who becomes one of the defining recurring figures in Grey’s Anatomy. ABC’s medical drama follows the professional and personal lives of doctors at Seattle Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, giving Dane’s character room to exist within stories about medicine, ambition, friendship, romance, grief, and workplace rivalry.
This is the obvious starting point because it is Dane’s most substantial and widely recognized television performance. Mark Sloan is not the sole focus of the series, however, and the show’s attention moves among a large ensemble. If you want to sample Dane’s arrival and recurring storylines, you do not necessarily need to commit to all 22 seasons immediately; if the character works for you, there is a very large binge waiting.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed all 22 seasons on Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix Standard with Ads, fuboTV, and YouTube TV, along with additional digital purchase options. Check the service listing before starting because season access and subscription tiers can change.
2. The Last Ship: the biggest action binge
Best for: viewers who want Dane in a sustained leading role with military action and an end-of-the-world premise.
In The Last Ship, Dane stars as naval officer Tom Chandler. The series begins after a global viral pandemic wipes out most of the world’s population. The crew of a destroyer searches for a cure and a way to preserve humanity, turning the show into a mix of naval operations, survival drama, international conflict, and scientific urgency.
The premise provides a direct bridge from Dane’s television fame to a more action-oriented screen persona. Unlike his supporting appearances in several of the movies on this list, he is the central figure here, and the five-season format gives the character a long arc. The pandemic in the series is fictional: The Last Ship is an action thriller, not a medical guide or a reliable source for understanding real-world disease outbreaks.

- The world's favorite Bad Boys are back with their iconic mix of edge-of-your seat action and outrageous comedy but this time with a twist: Miami's finest are now on the run.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed all five seasons on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads, with digital purchase options elsewhere. This is the pick most likely to occupy an entire weekend rather than a single evening.
3. Euphoria: Dane in a darker, more adult drama
Best for: viewers looking for emotionally intense, psychologically disturbing material rather than a light binge.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDane plays Cal Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria, a TV-MA drama about teenagers dealing with sexuality, addiction, grief, abuse, identity, and unstable relationships. Cal’s storyline is embedded in the show’s family and psychological conflicts, making this a sharply different showcase from the polished romance and workplace drama of Grey’s Anatomy.
Dane’s performance is part of an unsettling character study rather than a conventional heroic or romantic role. The series can be visually stylized, emotionally volatile, and difficult to watch, so it is best approached with the TV-MA rating in mind. It is not the choice for casual background viewing or a cheerful Saturday-night recommendation.
Content note: The series addresses sexual situations, drug use, addiction, violence, abuse, self-destructive behavior, and other adult themes.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed three seasons on HBO Max, HBO Max through Amazon Channels, and YouTube TV, with digital purchase options also available.

4. Bad Boys: Ride or Die: the accessible modern action movie
Best for: viewers who want a compact action-comedy movie instead of a multi-season commitment.
The 2024 sequel Bad Boys: Ride or Die places Dane in the supporting role of McGrath alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The movie continues the explosive buddy-cop formula with action set pieces, jokes, conspiracy elements, and the established chemistry between its two leading stars.
Dane is part of the ensemble, not the central hero. That distinction matters if you are choosing this specifically for him: the film is best understood as a modern Bad Boys entry that includes Dane, rather than an Eric Dane vehicle. It is nevertheless a good choice when you want to see him in a contemporary studio action production without beginning a long television series.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed the film through Hulu, fuboTV, and YouTube TV, as well as digital rental and purchase outlets. Sony’s official distribution information also confirms digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions. If you prefer a disc for a repeat action-movie weekend, the Bad Boys: Ride or Die Blu-ray is a straightforward ownership option; the film is not limited to physical media.

Best for: viewers who want a short, high-concept thriller with a simple situation that keeps getting worse.
In Open Water 2: Adrift, Dane plays Dan, one of a group of friends stranded in the water after they get stuck outside a yacht. The film turns an apparently manageable boating outing into a contained survival problem, relying on escalating panic, limited options, and the physical difficulty of getting back aboard.
The appeal is the premise and its steadily tightening pressure, not a promise of prestige drama. At approximately 94 minutes, it is an easy one-night selection and a useful alternative to starting a long series. The movie is rated R, so it is not a family pick. Viewers seeking a physical copy can also look for the Open Water 2: Adrift DVD alongside the available digital and streaming listings.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed the film on Amazon Prime Video, Prime Video with Ads, VIX, Tubi, and other free-with-ads or free library options, as well as rental and purchase services. Free availability can vary by location and may include advertising.

- Buckle up for more action, comedy and swagger in this ultimate Bad Boys movie bundle featuring the all-new movie Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) have gone from Miami?s finest to Miami?s most wanted. Then experience where it all began in Bad Boys, followed by the sequel Bad Boys II, and the explosive Bad Boys: For Life.
6. Valentine’s Day: the lighter ensemble option
Best for: viewers who want romance, comedy, and a large cast rather than a movie built around Dane.
Garry Marshall’s 2010 romantic comedy Valentine’s Day interweaves the stories of couples and singles in Los Angeles as they navigate relationships on the holiday. Dane plays Sean Jackson in a cast that includes Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Julia Roberts, and Ashton Kutcher.
This is a supporting ensemble appearance, not an Eric Dane showcase. Its value in a weekend guide is tonal variety: after a grim drama or tense survival thriller, Valentine’s Day offers a much lighter, star-packed option. The many connected storylines also make it a better fit for viewers who enjoy relationship comedies with multiple protagonists rather than a single central couple.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: JustWatch listed the film through YouTube TV, with rental and purchase options on Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Fandango At Home, and other outlets. Digital rental or purchase availability is separate from a physical DVD listing, so check the format carefully when choosing where to watch.
7. Famous Last Words: Eric Dane: the personal documentary
Best for: viewers who want the most current and intimate portrait of Dane rather than a fictional performance.
Famous Last Words: Eric Dane is a 2026 Netflix documentary interview in which Dane reflects on his life, acting career, family, substance-use history, and ALS diagnosis. The interview was recorded in November 2025 with the understanding that it would be released after his death. Netflix lists the program as a 50-minute, TV-14 documentary.
Best Value
- Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens
This is a fundamentally different kind of watch from the other six selections. It is not a performance-led drama or a piece of entertainment built around a fictional crisis; it is a direct, personal conversation about illness, mortality, addiction, family, and the meaning of a public career. Those subjects may make it a difficult viewing experience, especially for anyone affected by terminal illness, bereavement, or addiction.
U.S. availability checked August 12, 2026: Netflix’s official title page listed the documentary on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads. Netflix Tudum reported that the interview was recorded in November 2025 and published related coverage on February 20, 2026.
