Seattle musician Danny Newcomb launched Incantio in May 2025 as a marketplace intended to connect independent music rights holders with creators seeking tracks for films, ads, television and other projects. Its pitch is to make licensing more direct: artists can offer music and set prices, while creators can find tracks and obtain licenses. The launch details are historical; Incantio’s current pricing, catalog size and operating stage are not established in the available sources.
What Incantio is designed to do
Incantio is a two-sided music-licensing marketplace, not an AI music generator. The company’s current Terms of Service describe a service for people or companies who own rights in sound recordings and the musical works embodied in them, as well as users seeking to identify and license tracks for creative projects. Incantio’s Terms of Service
The basic transaction has two sides: a rights holder makes music available under specified terms, and a creator finds a track, checks whether its permitted uses fit the project, then obtains a license. That distinction matters: finding a song is not the same as having permission to use it.
How the marketplace was described at launch
GeekWire reported Incantio’s launch on May 28, 2025, describing a platform where independent artists could retain rights and set licensing prices, while creators could discover music and license it for projects. Founder Danny Newcomb said users could find an artist, see pricing and obtain a pre-approved license immediately. That was his description of the product at launch, not confirmation of every feature available today. GeekWire’s May 28, 2025 report

For artists, the proposed benefit was a more direct route to making licensing income from music they control. Newcomb described his aim as an open platform where artists could set the value of their digital rights for licensing. For filmmakers, advertisers and other content makers, the proposition was a way to search for music and secure permission without negotiating each use from scratch.
Why rights clearance is central
A recording can involve rights in both the sound recording and the underlying musical work. Incantio’s Terms of Service refer to both, underscoring that a usable license depends on the rights holder having authority over the rights being offered. A creator should review the license’s scope and permitted use before relying on a track in a finished project.

These considerations apply whether the creator is licensing music through a marketplace or another route. CD Baby, for example, describes digital distribution and optional sync licensing as separate services. Its guidance says sync eligibility requires digital distribution through CD Baby and ownership of the sound recording and publishing rights, or the proper license for a cover; samples and royalty-free material require checking the relevant license. What was reported about Incantio’s launch
GeekWire reported that Newcomb, a longtime Seattle musician, had worked on Incantio for about two years before the launch. The article said the team had five people and had raised a $350,000 pre-seed round led by Northwest Angel. It also reported early partnerships with CD Baby on the artist-supply side and Disco on the creator-demand side. Those are launch-era facts, not confirmation of the company’s present staffing, finances or partner relationships.

That does not establish the size or composition of Incantio’s current catalog. GeekWire also described the service as being in beta at publication and said revenue was expected that month; neither statement establishes its current operating stage or financial performance.

Incantio’s current service details are not established by the launch report or the Terms of Service alone. Before relying on the platform for a release or project, users should verify the specific track’s current terms and the company’s current offering. Useful questions include:
Rank #4
- Which rights are covered: the sound recording, the composition, or both?
- What media, territory, duration and kinds of use does the license allow?
- Is the license exclusive or non-exclusive, and does it require any approval?
- What price, fees and payout terms apply to that track?
- Does the rights holder control all necessary permissions, including any samples or third-party contributions?
The sources establish neither Incantio’s current catalog count nor its current prices, availability or operating stage. Newcomb’s interest in AI-assisted search and discovery was reported at launch; that account should not be read as a verified description of a current feature.
