In-market fans can use Mariners.TV or a participating provider carrying Mariners TV; out-of-market fans should use MLB.TV. A limited KING 5 arrangement adds 10 over-the-air games.
ROOT Sports Northwest is no longer the Mariners’ local broadcast home. After the 2025 season, the network closed and Major League Baseball took over local Mariners production and distribution for the 2026 season. Fans now have three main ways to watch: Mariners.TV for in-market streaming, Mariners TV through participating cable, satellite and live-TV providers, and MLB.TV for fans outside the Mariners’ home territory.
The change is more than a channel rename. The Mariners have left the regional-sports-network business, moving local production and distribution under MLB’s umbrella while retaining both a traditional television option and a direct-to-consumer streaming service.
How to watch the Mariners in 2026
| Where you live | Best starting point | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Mariners home territory | Mariners.TV or a provider carrying Mariners TV | Mariners.TV has no local blackouts, although national exclusivities still apply. |
| Outside the home territory | MLB.TV | Games are subject to MLB’s out-of-market blackout and national-broadcast rules. |
| Any location with a participating pay-TV provider | Mariners TV through the provider | Availability and channel number depend on the provider and ZIP code. |
| Viewers using an antenna | KING 5 or an affiliated station for selected games | The 2026 over-the-air arrangement covers only 10 games, not the full schedule. |
Mariners.TV replaces ROOT Sports for in-market streaming
Fans inside the Mariners’ local television territory can subscribe directly to Mariners.TV through supported MLB apps and devices. The service does not require a cable or satellite subscription, making it the most direct replacement for viewers who previously watched ROOT Sports but do not want a traditional pay-TV package.

The official Mariners streaming page currently lists the service at $54.99 for the season or $19.99 per month. Prices are subject to change, so check the official purchase page before subscribing. An earlier 2026 announcement listed a $99.99 seasonal price, but the later official streaming page lists $54.99; the newer price should be treated as current unless the purchase page changes again.
The listed Mariners home territory includes:
- Washington
- Oregon
- Idaho
- Montana
- Alaska
- Hawaii
- British Columbia and Alberta in Canada
Mariners.TV is intended for local fans in that territory. The official FAQ says local Mariners broadcasts are available without local blackouts, but that does not mean every game is always available. National exclusivity agreements can still move a game to a nationally distributed broadcast or impose separate viewing rules.
MLB.TV remains the option for out-of-market fans
Fans outside the Mariners’ home territory should generally use the standard MLB.TV out-of-market package. A fan in, for example, a state outside the Mariners’ listed territory would normally look to MLB.TV rather than Mariners.TV for Mariners games.
The reverse is important: a standard MLB.TV subscription is not the in-market replacement for ROOT Sports. Fans located inside the Mariners’ territory should look for Mariners.TV or a participating provider carrying Mariners TV. MLB blackout and national-exclusivity rules still apply to out-of-market viewing.

Mariners TV is still available through pay-TV providers
The shutdown of ROOT Sports does not eliminate the traditional television option. MLB’s 2026 distribution plan provides a branded Mariners TV channel through participating cable, satellite and internet-TV providers.

Providers identified in the official information include Xfinity, DIRECTV, Spectrum, Fubo, Astound Broadband/Wave and TDS, with additional distributors potentially being added. Existing customers whose packages include the new channel may see it appear automatically, but carriage is not guaranteed for every plan or location.
There is no universal Mariners TV channel number. Channel assignments vary by market, even within the same provider. Use the official Mariners or MLB ZIP-code channel finder to check availability instead of relying on a channel number listed for another city.
Before changing or cancelling a TV package
- Enter your ZIP code in the official Mariners TV channel finder.
- Confirm that your exact provider and package carry Mariners TV.
- Check the channel number for your local system.
- Confirm whether your provider login also supports access through an MLB app, if that is important to you.
- Compare the cost with the current Mariners.TV monthly or seasonal price before making a change.
Provider access and authentication are separate from MLB.TV eligibility. Having a cable or live-TV subscription does not automatically mean that every MLB streaming package is included; the provider and plan must specifically support the relevant Mariners TV access.

The Mariners and KING 5 announced a limited 2026 over-the-air arrangement covering 10 games on KING 5 and affiliate stations. Viewers with a properly installed antenna may be able to watch those selected broadcasts without a cable subscription or streaming subscription.
This is a useful supplement, especially for budget-conscious viewers, but it is not a full-season replacement for Mariners.TV or a pay-TV package. An antenna will not provide the rest of the Mariners schedule through this arrangement. Reception also depends on the viewer’s location, signal conditions and the relevant KING 5 affiliate.

What happened to ROOT Sports Northwest?
On September 26, 2025, the Mariners announced that MLB would take over distribution of the club’s game telecasts and streaming beginning with the 2026 season. ROOT Sports Northwest was scheduled to close after completing its final season-ending broadcasts in 2025.
The Mariners described the decision as an exit from the regional sports-network business. Instead of continuing with a Mariners-owned regional network, the club’s local broadcasts now operate through MLB-controlled production and distribution. The result is a centralized model with:
- a branded local television outlet, Mariners TV;
- an in-market direct-to-consumer service, Mariners.TV;
- continued distribution through participating cable, satellite and internet-TV providers; and
- standard MLB.TV access for out-of-market viewers.
Which option is right for you?
Choose Mariners.TV if:
- you live inside the Mariners’ listed home territory;
- you want local games without subscribing to cable or satellite TV;
- you primarily watch on supported MLB apps or devices; and
- the current monthly or seasonal price is lower than your alternative pay-TV package.
Choose a provider carrying Mariners TV if:
- you already pay for Xfinity, DIRECTV, Spectrum, Fubo, Astound Broadband/Wave, TDS or another participating provider;
- you want Mariners games alongside ordinary live television channels;
- your ZIP code and package include the channel; or
- you prefer a provider’s television equipment and support over a direct MLB subscription.
Choose MLB.TV if:
- you live outside the Mariners’ home territory; or
- you want to follow the Mariners as an out-of-market fan.
Use an antenna if:
- you only need access to the 10 KING 5 or affiliate broadcasts;
- you live within reliable reception range; and
- you understand that the antenna will not provide the entire Mariners schedule.
Common problems and what they usually mean
“I subscribed to MLB.TV, but the Mariners game is unavailable.”
First check your location. If you are inside the Mariners’ home territory, standard MLB.TV may not provide the local replacement you need; check Mariners.TV or a provider carrying Mariners TV. If you are outside the territory, check MLB’s blackout rules and whether the game is subject to a national exclusive broadcast.
“I cannot find Mariners TV on my provider.”
Check the exact ZIP code, package tier and local channel lineup. A provider may carry the channel in one market but not another, and channel numbers can differ between nearby communities. The official channel finder is more reliable than a general provider list.
“I have a cable subscription. Does that automatically include Mariners.TV?”
Not necessarily. A provider may give you Mariners TV through its own television service without including the standalone Mariners.TV subscription, or it may support MLB-app authentication under specific conditions. Check the provider’s current terms and the Mariners’ official FAQ.

“Does no local blackout mean every Mariners game is available?”
No. The no-local-blackout statement for Mariners.TV is subject to national exclusivities. A nationally exclusive game can follow different distribution rules from an ordinary local broadcast.

ROOT Sports’ shutdown changes who distributes Mariners games, not whether local fans have viewing choices. In 2026, in-market fans should start with Mariners.TV or confirm Mariners TV through their ZIP code and provider. Out-of-market fans should use MLB.TV. An antenna can help with 10 selected KING 5 broadcasts, but it is not a full-season solution.
Because pricing, provider carriage, channel assignments, national broadcast arrangements and affiliate availability can change during the season, verify the official Mariners viewing information immediately before purchasing or cancelling a service.
