DanMachi Season 5 is no longer on hiatus. The delayed episodes were released in February and March 2025, Episode 15 completed the season, and Season 6 was officially announced as in production in February 2026.
DanMachi Season 5 is no longer on hiatus. The anime’s delayed Episodes 12 through 15 were released in February and March 2025, and Episode 15 completed the season. The franchise has also moved forward: production of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 6 was officially announced on February 7, 2026.
The original headline—“We Sincerely Apologize to Viewers”: One of Fall 2024’s Biggest Fantasy Anime Goes on Indefinite Hiatus—described the situation accurately when it was published in December 2024. It is now outdated. The pause was a temporary production delay, not a cancellation.
What happened to DanMachi Season 5?
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? V, commonly called DanMachi Season 5, began airing in fall 2024 under the “Goddess of Fertility Arc.” Episode 12 was scheduled for December 27, 2024, but the production committee announced on December 24 that the episode would not air as planned.

The committee apologized for the repeated schedule changes and said that the delay was necessary for “production reasons” so the remaining episodes could be delivered at the intended quality. It did not provide a more specific explanation.
At that point, there was no replacement date. That is why coverage described the season as being on an “indefinite hiatus.” In this context, indefinite did not mean permanent. It meant that the committee had not yet announced when the broadcast would resume.
The delay was eventually resolved
On January 17, 2025, the official DanMachi portal published a new schedule for the remaining episodes:
| Episode | Release schedule | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Episode 12 | February 7–8, 2025, depending on the platform | Released |
| Episode 13 | February 7–8, 2025, depending on the platform | Released |
| Episode 14 | February 26–27, 2025, depending on the platform | Released |
| Episode 15 | March 5–6, 2025, depending on the platform | Released; final episode |
The date ranges reflect differences between the listed streaming and Japanese broadcast pathways. They should not be treated as a single universal release date for every country or service.

On March 9, 2025, the official portal confirmed the completion of Season 5 and announced a climax screening covering Episodes 12 through 15. Episode 15 was identified as the season’s final episode.
Why was Episode 12 delayed?
The only precise public explanation in the production committee’s postponement notice was “production reasons.” The committee said it needed additional time to deliver the work at full quality and apologized to viewers who had already been affected by schedule changes.

That wording leaves the underlying issue unspecified. The notice did not establish whether the problem involved animation workload, staffing, post-production, scheduling, compositing, sound, or another part of the production process.
Therefore, claims that the studio “ran out of time,” that the animation was unfinished, or that a particular company was overbooked go beyond the confirmed evidence. Until the committee or another authoritative source provides more detail, the responsible description is simply that Season 5 experienced a production-related delay.

No. The season was postponed and later completed. Episodes 12 and 13 returned in early February 2025, Episode 14 followed later that month, and Episode 15 arrived in early March.
The distinction matters because an open-ended postponement can look like a cancellation when no replacement date is available. In DanMachi’s case, the subsequent schedule announcement and the official completion notice definitively resolved that uncertainty.
What is DanMachi Season 5 about?
Season 5 adapts the “Goddess of Fertility Arc” from the long-running fantasy-adventure franchise created by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. The story follows Bell Cranel, an adventurer in Orario whose progress is closely tied to the city’s Dungeon and its competing gods and familias.
The fifth season places Bell, Syr, Freya, and Freya Familia at the center of its conflict. That premise is enough to identify the season without revealing the outcome of the delayed episodes.

Spoiler warning: The scheduling news itself contains no meaningful story spoilers. Details about Episodes 12–15, however, may reveal the conclusion of the season’s central conflict.
Why the delay attracted so much attention
DanMachi was not a new or untested anime when the delay occurred. It is part of an established fantasy franchise built around Orario, its adventurers, and the Dungeon. Yen Press publishes the English-language light novels, and the official franchise portal reported worldwide cumulative circulation of more than 17 million copies in March 2024.
That scale explains why the postponement mattered to a large existing audience. It does not, by itself, prove that DanMachi was objectively one of the highest-ranked or most-watched anime of fall 2024. Descriptions such as “one of the biggest fantasy anime” are editorial framing unless supported by a specific audience, sales, or viewership measurement.
What comes next: DanMachi Season 6
The broader franchise is continuing. On February 7, 2026, the official DanMachi portal announced that Season 6 is in production.
However, the announcement cited here did not establish a premiere date or release window. Anyone claiming that Season 6 is definitely arriving in a particular month or season would need a newer official announcement.
For now, the confirmed status is:
- Season 5: Complete.
- Episodes 12–15: Released in February and March 2025.
- Season 5 finale: Episode 15.
- Season 6: Officially announced as in production.
- Season 6 release date: Not announced in the cited official production notice.
- Exact cause of the Season 5 delay: Not publicly specified beyond “production reasons.”
Where to continue with the franchise
Viewers who want to revisit the source material can look for the English light-novel line from Yen Press. A current physical release is DanMachi light novel Volume 20, listed by Yen Press with an August 11, 2026 U.S. paperback release date and retailer options that include Amazon.
Volume 20 should not be presented as a recap of the Season 5 hiatus or as a direct companion to the production delay. It is part of the continuing original novel series—the source franchise behind the anime—and is best suited to readers who want to follow the broader story in its original format.

The corrected answer to the old headline
DanMachi Season 5 did go on an indefinite hiatus in December 2024 because Episode 12 lost its scheduled release date and no replacement had yet been announced. But the hiatus was temporary. The remaining episodes were rescheduled, Season 5 finished with Episode 15 in March 2025, and Season 6 was officially put into production in February 2026.
The one major question that remains unanswered is what specific production problem caused the delay. The committee has not publicly gone beyond the general explanation of “production reasons.”
