The conversation also put his performance in the context of the franchise’s established voice legacy, including Peter Cullen and Frank Welker.
What Hemsworth discussed at SDCC 2024
An IGN listing for the San Diego Comic-Con interview names Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry and Keegan-Michael Key as participants and says the conversation addressed honoring longtime Transformers voice actors Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. IGN’s SDCC interview listing establishes that framing, but it does not provide a complete transcript of Hemsworth’s remarks.
Separate reporting published by ComicBook.com on September 16, 2024, describes Cullen’s influence on Hemsworth’s portrayal and the character’s movement toward the familiar vocal cadence. That is useful context, but it should not be presented as a verbatim quotation from the Comic-Con discussion. ComicBook.com’s report covers that account.
Gizmodo also reported on Hemsworth discussing the role with co-star Brian Tyree Henry at Comic-Con. Gizmodo’s SDCC coverage corresponds to the event and subject, rather than supplying a full transcript.

Why the role begins with Orion Pax
Transformers One tells the origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, who begin as friends before becoming enemies. Hemsworth voices Orion Pax, the character who becomes Optimus Prime, while Brian Tyree Henry voices D-16, who becomes Megatron. Paramount’s official film page describes that premise and identifies Hemsworth as Orion Pax/Optimus Prime.
Starting with Orion Pax gives the film room to show how a young Cybertronian becomes the leader audiences recognize as Optimus Prime. The relationship with D-16 makes that change more than a new name or voice: it is part of the story of a friendship breaking apart.

How Cullen’s legacy fits Hemsworth’s performance
Peter Cullen’s voice is central to the character’s long-standing screen identity, and the SDCC interview was framed around honoring that legacy. The later ComicBook.com account specifically connects Cullen’s influence to Hemsworth’s approach and describes a progression toward the familiar cadence. The available reports do not establish the exact words Hemsworth used at SDCC, so claims about his process should stay at that reported level rather than being turned into invented quotations.
Frank Welker is also part of the franchise’s voice-acting legacy identified in the IGN interview listing. The point is not that Hemsworth replaces the history of those performances; Transformers One gives him a younger version of the character in a story set before Optimus Prime’s familiar identity is fully formed.

Film details and separate interview context
Paramount lists Transformers One as a PG-rated film directed by Josh Cooley, with a running time of 104 minutes and a release date of September 20, 2024. Those are film details, not measures of its reception or of Hemsworth’s performance.
A separate CBS Mornings interview, listed by Paramount+ and CBS with an air date of September 20, 2024, also has Natalie Morales speaking with Hemsworth about voicing young Optimus Prime. It corroborates the role context but is not the San Diego Comic-Con conversation. Paramount+’s interview listing and CBS’s listing identify that separate segment.
