Sabrina Carpenter released the “Taste” music video on August 23, 2024, the same day her album Short n’ Sweet arrived. Directed by Dave Meyers, the video stars Carpenter and Jenna Ortega in a darkly comic rivalry over a boyfriend played by Rohan Campbell.
What happens in the “Taste” video?
Carpenter and Ortega play women locked in a feud over the same man. The rivalry escalates through a series of stylized attacks and apparent deaths, treated as campy horror rather than realistic violence. After the boyfriend is dead, the women seem to recognize that he was not worth their fight.

Carpenter described the relationship at the heart of the video as light-hearted but brutal: a bond between two women marked by love and obsession as well as jealousy and anger. ABC Rage attributed those comments to an Amazon Music interview. The central film connection
Death Becomes Her (1992) is the main cinematic touchstone identified in contemporary coverage. TheWrap also reads visual echoes of Ginger Snaps, Kill Bill, The Addams Family Values, Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween Ends in the video. Those additional connections are the outlet’s interpretations of visual details, not a list Carpenter confirmed as influences. TheWrap’s reference guide discusses them.
