Season 7 opens with a two-part mission in Mexico City, where Hondo and 20-Squad pursue a fugitive tied to a promise from a decade earlier. The season premiered on CBS on February 16, 2024. It was first presented as the series’ final season, but CBS renewed the show for 2024–2025; the series finale aired in May 2025.
What happens in S.W.A.T. Season 7?
The season begins with Hondo and his team traveling to Mexico City to bring back a fugitive who escaped Hondo ten years earlier. The mission goes wrong, reopening old wounds. Hondo then pursues the killer while trying to keep a decade-old promise to an old witness, according to CBS’s premiere announcement.
The two-part opening
The first installment is titled “The Promise.” CBS scheduled it for Friday, February 16, 2024, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Kent Rotherham wrote the episode and Billy Gierhart directed it. The opening story continues in the second part of the Mexico City mission.
Who is in the Season 7 cast?
Shemar Moore leads the series as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, the Los Angeles-born-and-raised sergeant balancing ties to his community with his responsibilities to the team and his new parenthood. Sony’s official series overview identifies the core 20-Squad characters as David “Deacon” Kay, Victor Tan and Zoe Powell, with Commander Robert Hicks overseeing Metro SWAT.

Was Season 7 the final season?
Not ultimately. CBS initially framed Season 7 as the final season, then announced a renewal for the 2024–2025 season. CBS later called its May 2025 episode the S.W.A.T. series finale, confirming the show continued beyond Season 7. The renewal was for that season, rather than an indication that the series would continue indefinitely.
How does Season 7 differ from the series finale?
The Mexico City fugitive case belongs to Season 7’s opening. The separate series finale, “Return to Base,” aired later, on May 16, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. In that two-hour finale, ex-pat Russian mercenaries hold Los Angeles hostage with hundreds of hidden explosives and demand the release of their leader, Dmitri Rykov. After Rykov is taken to SWAT headquarters for safekeeping, the headquarters itself comes under attack. CBS’s series-finale announcement describes this later storyline; it is not the Season 7 finale plot.

Availability depends on country and can change. Sony’s current general series page lists Netflix and ION as watch-now destinations, but does not confirm that Season 7 is available on either service in every territory. Check the services’ current local catalogs for the season and episodes you want.
