His October 11, 2024 review argues that the record ultimately favors going hard, even as some of its bigger, more polished turns feel uneven.
What does “going big” versus “going hard” mean here?
The contrast is Reeves’s critical framework, not a confirmed statement of GloRilla’s intentions. He describes a tension between making broad, polished songs with the reach of “Grammy-sized exposure” and leaning into the direct, boastful style he associates with her established appeal. As he puts it, “Glorious illustrates the quandary some rappers face when tasked with making ‘debut’ albums after years of mixtapes.”

That framing shapes the review: the question is less whether the album can move between styles than whether the shifts make for a satisfying whole. Reeves finds the hard-edged approach more convincing overall, while some of the crossover gestures seem less natural to him.
Where does the album’s Southern rap identity come through?
Reeves points to “Hollon,” “Let Her Cook,” and “Whatchu Know Bout Me” as tracks that invoke Southern rap traditions. Those callbacks give his reading of the album a concrete counterweight to its more polished, broadly aimed moments. They are part of his interpretation of the songs, rather than a claim about GloRilla’s stated influences or intent.

Do the short songs help or hold the album back?
Reeves observes that many tracks are concise, often built around roughly two verses and running about two and a half minutes. He questions whether that compactness serves every song: a quick structure can keep the energy moving, but in his view some tracks might benefit from more room to develop. The review presents this as a songwriting trade-off, not a claim that every song follows the same format.
How do the spiritual songs fit with the braggadocio?
Reeves identifies “Rain Down on Me” and “Glo’s Prayer” as the album’s spiritual center. He then singles out the move back into braggadocio on “How I Look” as an awkward transition. The contrast gives the album another competing mode, but the sequence does not fully convince him.

Which side of the album makes the strongest impression?
For Reeves, “I Ain’t Going” is a particularly forceful example of GloRilla’s hard-edged approach. That judgment supports his broader conclusion: the album’s tougher, more direct moments carry more weight than some of its attempts at crossover polish. His assessment is mixed rather than dismissive; the tension is central to what he hears, and some shifts land less successfully than others.
