Ree Drummond’s move to a smaller home on the Pawhuska ranch was one stage in a sequence, not the whole story. A 2022 report said she and husband Ladd had moved into a simple, smaller house while a future main home was planned. In a house tour published in 2024, Drummond described a newly built home on the site of the family’s old house. The available accounts do not establish that the small interim house was the residence shown in that later tour.
Was there one move or a sequence?
The accounts describe two phases. A June 24, 2022 Yahoo report, attributing its details to Drummond’s blog and a PEOPLE interview, said the couple had moved in December to a small house next to their regular home. It described the smaller place as simply furnished, with only selected belongings. The report said it might later serve as a guest house once a larger main house was built. Read the 2022 report.
By April 4, 2024, The Pioneer Woman’s house tour was presenting a newly built home on the site of the old family house. The tour does not identify that home as the smaller interim house from the earlier report. The two descriptions should therefore be treated as different stages, not as proof that the 2024 home was the downsized one. See the 2024 house tour.
Why did the family leave the old house?
In the 2024 tour, Drummond said the old house was where she and Ladd raised their children and where Ladd grew up. It had developed foundation problems, plumbing woes and water damage. The new home was built in the same spot, preserving the location while replacing the aging house.

What is known about the new home?
The 2024 tour describes a family-oriented design rather than a minimalist downsizing project. Its features include a large, durable kitchen intended for family meals, abundant windows, arched doorways and exposed wood beams that bring in Spanish ranch influences. It also includes a mudroom and Drummond’s first home office. The project involved Tulsa designer Sherri Duvall and architect John Duvall.
A kitchen built for everyday use
The kitchen was planned as a hardworking gathering place. Drummond said, “But having the skillets right there actually makes me want to cook more!” The tour also names Brage Living Atlas bar stools, set of 2, among its linked home items; that mention is a furnishing detail, not an explanation for the move.
