Reacher has been renewed for Season 6, Prime Video announced on September 28, 2026. The news arrived after Alan Ritchson reportedly said his favorite Lee Child novel, Die Trying, had been approved for adaptation “until someone got re-elected”—a claim that has not been independently confirmed. Season 4 adapts a different book: Gone Tomorrow.
What is the good news about Reacher?
Prime Video announced on September 28, 2026, that Reacher will return for Season 6. The announcement described the renewal as a joint continuation with Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. Read the studios’ announcement.
Prime Video also reported that Season 4 drew 66 million global viewers in its first 28 days on the service. The platform said that figure surpassed Season 3’s performance and made Season 4 one of the five most-viewed seasons of any original series in Prime Video history. These are platform-reported audience figures and rankings, not independently audited measurements.
The same announcement said the series had reached more than 200 million worldwide viewers since its 2022 launch. Prime Video and Paramount Television Studios supplied that franchise-wide figure.

What did Alan Ritchson say about Die Trying?
In a report about a fan discussing Die Trying, TheWrap reproduced a reply attributed to Ritchson: “My favorite book. Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected.” The remark suggests that an adaptation had once received approval, in Ritchson’s account, but it does not establish why plans changed.
Ritchson did not name the elected official or say which season he meant. TheWrap reported that Prime Video had not immediately responded to its request for comment. The available reporting therefore documents Ritchson’s assertion, not an official confirmation that an election caused a story or adaptation change. TheWrap’s report.

Is Season 4 adapting Die Trying?
No. Season 4 is based on Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow, identified by Amazon as the 13th novel in the series. Its story begins when Reacher encounters a distressed stranger on a subway and becomes involved in a dangerous plot. Die Trying is the novel being discussed in Ritchson’s reported comment; it is not Season 4’s source book.
| Book | Connection to the series |
|---|---|
| Gone Tomorrow | Season 4’s source novel, according to Amazon and the studios’ announcement. |
| Die Trying | The novel Ritchson was responding to in the reported fan exchange; no season is identified in his comment. |
