Rahul Gandhi introduced Pidi as the comic answer to a question then circulating online: who tweets for Rahul Gandhi? In a video posted by the Office of RG account on October 29, 2017, Gandhi prompted his dog to greet the camera and offered him a treat. The caption jokingly cast Pidi as the writer of Gandhi’s tweets.
Who tweets for Rahul Gandhi?
The Office of RG account posted the video on October 29, 2017, during discussion of Gandhi’s increasingly witty and catchy Twitter posts. The caption adopted Pidi’s voice: “Ppl been asking who tweets for this guy..I’m coming clean..it’s me..Pidi..I’m way cooler than him. Look what I can do with a tweet..oops..treat!” India Today reproduced the post, as did Scroll.
It was a joke, not a literal account-management disclosure. The post poked fun at speculation about who was behind Gandhi’s new style of tweets, using the dog as its deliberately absurd answer.
Who is Pidi, and what happened in the video?
Pidi is the dog featured in the clip. India Today described it as a 14-second video: Gandhi prompts Pidi to say “namaste” to the camera, then places a treat on the dog’s nose. The caption’s wordplay turns “tweet” into “treat,” making the demonstration part of the punchline.

The contemporaneous reports do not establish Pidi’s breed, age, or adoption history, nor do they identify the treat’s brand.
How did Gandhi’s communications process work?
In a later interaction reported by The Indian Express, Gandhi said he reflected on issues and offered suggestions to a communications team of two or three people, who refined the material before it was posted. That account gives a more grounded picture than the Pidi joke: Gandhi described contributing ideas while a small team helped shape content. It does not support claiming that Pidi wrote the tweets—or that Gandhi alone drafted every post.
