Its documentation names formats ranging from ZIP and RAR archives to PDF, DJVU, EPUB, and FB2; it also describes office-file conversion through LibreOffice. For collection management, the project prefers a running MySQL server but also supports local SQLite.
What QManga does
The QManga project README describes it as a manga and book reader written with Qt. It presents the application as a multithreaded viewer with fast bookshelf support, alongside indexing and search for a personal collection.
QManga is intended for more than comic archives: its documented formats include scanned-page files, text books, and office documents converted to PDF. A LinuxLinks listing dated October 9, 2025 also identifies it as a manga reader with a MySQL indexer and lists an OCR editor (LinuxLinks’ QManga entry).
Which file formats does it support?
| Use | Formats or method documented |
|---|---|
| Manga and scanned pages | ZIP, RAR, PDF, and DJVU (project README) |
| Text books | TXT, EPUB, and FB2 (project README) |
| Office documents | RTF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, WPS, ODT, ODS, and ODP, converted through LibreOffice to PDF (project README) |
The office formats are documented as a conversion workflow, not as formats that QManga necessarily renders natively. For a particular file, check that the relevant conversion or format dependency is available in the build you install.

How indexing, search, and OCR fit in
Collection database
The README says a running MySQL server is preferred for collection management and search at top speed; local SQLite is also supported. It provides no benchmark figures, so there is no documented numerical comparison of search speed or collection size.
OCR
LinuxLinks lists an OCR editor. For Linux builds, the README names Tesseract with Japanese recognition data as an optional dependency for OCR functionality. The available documentation does not establish that OCR is included or configured in every build.

What installation may require
The README lists these build requirements: Qt 6.5 or later with GUI, Widgets, DBus (for Linux), SQL, XML, and Network components; C++20 support; libzip; zlib; ICU; a MySQL client library; SQLite 3.x or later with Qt SQL drivers; and intel-tbb.
It also lists optional Linux dependencies for particular formats or features:

- Poppler 0.83 or later for PDF.
- Tesseract with Japanese recognition data for OCR.
- Djvulibre for DJVU.
- ebook-tools/libepub for EPUB.
These are project build requirements, not a definitive requirements list for a prebuilt installer. The reviewed project information does not establish a complete supported-operating-system matrix or a particular installation method, so check the repository’s current installation guidance for the build you intend to use.
How to evaluate whether QManga fits
- Check that your manga, scans, or books use one of the documented formats.
- If you rely on office files, confirm that the LibreOffice-to-PDF conversion path is available.
- Decide whether local SQLite is sufficient or whether you want to configure a MySQL server for collection management and search.
- If OCR matters, confirm that the build includes the required OCR support and Japanese recognition data where applicable.
- Check the current repository for release and installation information; the reviewed material does not establish release recency or maintenance cadence.
QManga is distinct from the older Windows reader
An older Windows manga reader also used the QManga name and has an archived release history from 2010–2011. That archive is separate from the current Qt project; its old version details should not be taken as features or release information for the reader described here (older QManga release archive).
