The “exciting update” in the original headline referred to a 2023 report that production on the Phineas and Ferb revival had begun on May 3. Since then, the revival has reached audiences: Disney ordered 40 new episodes, Season 5 began releasing in 2025, and Part 2 was streaming by January 16, 2026. In a newer interview, co-creator Dan Povenmire teased an unnamed character finally getting something long wanted. Separately, Disney has greenlit a new time-warp movie.
What was the original revival update?
A May 5, 2023 ScreenRant report said revival production had started on May 3. The available record is an IMDb-hosted summary of that secondary report, rather than a directly verified statement from Povenmire or Disney, so the precise date should be understood as reported, not as a Disney-confirmed production announcement. Where does Season 5 stand now?
The production-start news is no longer the latest stage of the revival. Disney announced an order for 40 new episodes in 2023, and its press page announced the new season for June 2025. By the time Disney+ published its interview with the creators on January 16, 2026, Season 5 Part 2 was streaming. Disney+’s January 2026 interview and Disney Branded Television’s 2023 announcement.
Disney’s 2025 season announcement specified the United States and select international markets for the initial batch, with other markets following later. Broadcast and streaming availability can differ by territory and date, so the U.S. schedule should not be assumed to apply everywhere.

What did Povenmire tease about the next batch?
In the January 16, 2026 Disney+ interview, co-creator and executive producer Dan Povenmire said: “There’s a character who’s been wanting something for a very long time. And he’s finally gonna get it. It’s in this next batch drop.” He did not name the character or reveal what the character gets, so the tease does not establish a specific plot outcome.
The same interview offers a glimpse into the creators’ approach. Povenmire described idea-making as a process that generates more ideas, while co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh said the show uses songs to carry some of its emotional storytelling. Those comments give context for the series’ creative style, but do not identify the teased storyline.

Is there also a new Phineas and Ferb movie?
Yes. In a separate announcement on January 15, 2026, Disney greenlit a time-warp adventure movie from Povenmire and Marsh. Disney said production is planned to begin in 2026 and that the film will be available on Disney+ and Disney Channel; it has not announced a release date.
Disney’s premise centers on a time-travel experiment by Dr. Doofenshmirtz that erases the moment Phineas’ mother meets Ferb’s father. The boys consequently never become brothers, and they have to restore the timeline. Disney also announced that the original cast will return. This movie is distinct from the revival’s episode production and the 2023 report about when that production started. Disney’s movie announcement.
