Read the original novels in numbered order. Disney’s television adaptation began in 2023; its second season adapts The Sea of Monsters, and Disney’s 2026 press listing identifies The Titan’s Curse as the basis for season three, which is in production.
Percy Jackson books in order
The original series consists of five numbered novels. The Disney Books catalog lists them in this sequence, which is the clearest order for a first read:
- The Lightning Thief
- The Sea of Monsters
- The Titan’s Curse
- The Battle of the Labyrinth
- The Last Olympian
Disney Books’ Percy Jackson catalog also includes later connected-world titles, guides, graphic novels, and other formats. Those are not additional entries in the original five-book sequence. For a straightforward first experience of Percy’s story, start with book one and continue through book five.
What is the story about?
The series follows Percy Jackson, a boy who discovers that he is a demigod: a child of a Greek god and a mortal. In The Lightning Thief, Percy is accused by Zeus of stealing the master lightning bolt. He sets out with Grover and Annabeth to find it and avert a conflict among the gods, according to Disney’s official synopsis for the television adaptation.

That mythological premise carries through the original novels as Percy confronts quests, monsters, and challenges tied to the world of Greek mythology. The books are middle-grade fantasy adventures; the official catalog provides the numbered novels and related editions, rather than treating every companion or adaptation as part of the core reading order.
Which Percy Jackson books are adapted in each TV season?
Disney’s television series adapts the novels in sequence, though a season and its source book are separate works. The announced season-to-book connections are:

What happens in the 2026 Camp Half-Blood books?
On May 12, 2026, the Associated Press reported that Random House Children’s Books had announced four middle-grade Camp Half-Blood novels set between The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. They expand the world around the original sequence; they do not change the order of the five original novels.
The first announced title, The Wild Zone, written with Annebelle Oh, was scheduled for September 29, 2026. That date has passed, but the cited announcement alone does not confirm whether the book has been published or establish its current availability. The other three books were being developed with Kyle Lukoff, Jade Adia, and Pablo Cartaya, with installments planned six months apart. Those plans should not be read as confirmed publication dates.
Riordan said the idea was to explore what was happening at camp between the first two original books while introducing new demigod heroes. The four-book project is therefore best understood as a connected companion series, not a replacement for the original five-book reading order. The Associated Press announcement includes the project details and Riordan’s explanation.
Which edition or set should you choose?
The Disney Books catalog lists individual novels, a paperback boxed set of all five original books, and other formats such as graphic novels and companion titles. Choose by what you want to read rather than by cover branding:

- For the complete original story: choose the five-book paperback boxed set or buy the five numbered novels individually.
- For an adaptation tie-in: Disney Books also lists a three-book tie-in set covering books one through three. Its listed release date is November 10, 2026, so it should not be treated as already available as of the research date, October 8, 2026.
- For a different presentation: graphic novels retell the story in comic form; they are adaptations, not extra installments in the original prose sequence.
- For additional context: guides and companion books are separate from the five numbered novels and can be considered after, or alongside, the core books according to your interest.
Edition details and inventory can change. The publisher’s catalog is the source for the available formats and stated release dates, but it does not establish current retailer stock.

Reported sales and viewing figures use different dates and measures, so they should not be combined into a single current total. Disney Plus Press said in 2023 that the novels had sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. In 2026, the Associated Press reported more than 150 million copies worldwide for the Percy Jackson novels since The Lightning Thief was published in 2005. These are figures published by different sources at different times, not competing measurements taken under the same conditions.
For the television series, Disney Plus Press reported in February 2024 that the show had accumulated over 110 million hours streamed on Disney+ and Hulu as of that announcement. Disney also said the first episode reached 26.2 million views in its first three weeks on those platforms, citing internal Disney data. These are dated platform figures, not independently audited audience measures or present-day totals. See Disney’s 2023 series announcement, its 2024 audience figures and season-two release, and the Associated Press report for the figures in context.
