If Peacock will not open, keeps buffering, or shows a black screen on your Fire TV device, start by closing the app, restarting the Firestick, and checking your connection. Peacock lists Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later as supported. Work through the fixes below in order, testing Peacock after each one so you can stop as soon as it works.
First, match the symptom to a likely fix

Before troubleshooting, check the device: open Settings → My Fire TV → About and note the Fire TV model and Fire OS version. Menu labels can vary by device and software version. If the device is below Fire OS 6, it does not meet Peacock’s listed Fire TV requirement.
1. Force-stop Peacock and reopen it
Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Peacock, then select Force Stop. Return to the Home screen and launch Peacock again. If Force Stop is not shown, close the app and reopen it.

2. Restart the Firestick itself
Use Settings → My Fire TV → Restart. If the menus are inaccessible, unplug the Firestick’s power adapter, wait at least 20 seconds, then reconnect it. Wait for the Home screen to finish loading before opening Peacock. Peacock recommends a full power-down and 20-second wait for playback problems; Amazon also advises restarting or unplugging Fire TV devices for app failures.
Restarting the television alone may not restart the Firestick, particularly if the stick remains powered through the TV’s USB port. For diagnosis, use the supplied wall power adapter if possible. If the Firestick is unresponsive, a longer unplug period may help.
3. Check the internet connection
- Open another streaming app on the Firestick.
- Try a different Peacock title.
- Test Peacock on a phone or computer using the same Wi-Fi.
- If available, temporarily connect the Firestick to a phone hotspot.
- If other apps are failing too, restart your modem and router.
Use the results to narrow it down:
- Other apps fail too: investigate your Wi-Fi, router, or internet service.
- Peacock works on a hotspot but not home Wi-Fi: check router settings, DNS filters, parental controls, VPNs, ad blockers, or the ISP connection. Temporarily disabling a filter or VPN can be a useful test; buying a VPN is not a standard fix.
- Peacock fails on several devices and networks: the cause may be your account or Peacock’s service rather than the Firestick.
- Only one title fails: the issue may be specific to that title or event.
Peacock recommends checking that the device has a working internet connection. The test results are more useful than assuming the connection simply needs to be faster.
4. Update Fire TV and Peacock
To check Fire OS, go to Settings → My Fire TV → About → Check for Updates. Install any available update, allow the device to restart, then test Peacock.
For the app, open the Amazon Appstore, search for Peacock, and select Update if it appears. Appstore controls and automatic-update options can differ across Fire TV models and software versions.

If Peacock will not download or stays stuck at “Downloading,” check that the device meets the Fire OS requirement and has storage available. Also install any pending Fire TV updates. If the Appstore itself appears stuck, Amazon’s support guidance includes clearing its cache and data from the installed-apps settings.
5. Clear Peacock’s cache, then its data if necessary
Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Peacock.

- Open Peacock and test it.
- If the problem remains, return to the same menu and select Clear Data.
- Open Peacock and sign in again if prompted.
Cache consists of temporary files, so clearing it is generally the less disruptive step. Clearing data resets the app’s local information and will usually mean signing in again. Have your Peacock login details ready first. These controls are also included in Amazon’s Fire TV cache and data instructions.
6. Free up Fire TV storage
Low storage can get in the way of app updates, installation, or normal operation. Check Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage; on some versions, storage information appears under Settings → Applications.
To remove an app you no longer use, open Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, select the app, and choose Uninstall. Consider unused streaming services, games, or sideloaded apps first. Avoid deleting system apps indiscriminately. Reopen Peacock after freeing space and test again.

7. Uninstall and reinstall Peacock
If closing, restarting, updates, and cache/data clearing have not helped, reinstall the official app:
- Open Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Peacock.
- Select Uninstall and confirm.
- Restart the Firestick.
- Open the Amazon Appstore, search for Peacock, and install it.
- Sign in and test playback.
Reinstallation takes longer and requires another sign-in, but can help if the app crashes at launch, became stuck after an update, or has an incomplete installation. It will not fix an unsupported Fire OS version, a subscription problem, a network fault, or a service outage. Avoid unofficial APK downloads when the official app is available.
8. Separate account, title, service, and hardware problems
If Peacock still fails, test it on another supported device and, if possible, another network. Try another profile and title, confirm that the subscription is active through the correct billing provider, and write down any error code. Peacock subscriptions may be billed directly or through another provider; reinstalling the app does not change which account has the subscription.
- Only this Firestick fails: focus on its app installation, storage, firmware, power, or compatibility.
- Peacock fails across devices on the same account: check login, subscription entitlement, billing, or contact Peacock.
- One program fails while others play: the issue may be title- or event-specific.
- Every app is slow or crashes: investigate Fire TV storage, power, heat, network, or aging hardware—not just Peacock.
For an app that opens to a blank screen, also reseat the Firestick’s HDMI connection, try another HDMI port, and confirm the TV is on the right input. These are general hardware checks, not Peacock-specific remedies. If possible, test the stick on another television.
Peacock has not been confirmed as down here, so do not assume a service-wide outage from one failed device. If the problem follows your account or occurs across devices, contact Peacock Help. If the whole Fire TV device is affected, use Amazon Fire TV support. Share your Fire TV model, Fire OS version, exact symptom or error code, and whether other apps, devices, or networks work.

When to consider a factory reset
A factory reset is a last resort, not a Peacock-specific first-line fix. It erases installed apps, settings, and account configuration. Consider it only if the Fire TV device has broader problems and less disruptive steps have failed. If Peacock alone is broken, resetting the whole device is unlikely to be the most efficient next step.

Why will Peacock not download on my Firestick?
