The official first-look teaser for Outlander season 7, part 2 was released on June 1, 2024, and announced a U.S. premiere for Friday, November 22, 2024. That date is now historical: season 7B has already premiered. At the time, STARZ said new episodes would arrive weekly on Fridays through the STARZ app and its streaming and on-demand platforms.

What the official teaser revealed

The teaser set up a major geographical and emotional shift for the Frasers. Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian leave the American colonies and return to Scotland, bringing the story back to one of its defining locations.

STARZ also placed the family against the escalating American Revolutionary War. The conflict forces the characters to weigh their relationships against the land and community they have made their home. The official description presents the central tension broadly rather than revealing a detailed episode-by-episode plot: Jamie and Claire’s marriage is tested, loyalties are changing, and separation threatens the MacKenzie-Fraser family.

Meanwhile, Roger and Brianna face danger on a different track. Their storyline continues to involve enemies across time, giving the second half of season seven a parallel conflict rather than simply following Jamie and Claire’s return to Scotland.

A return to Scotland after six seasons away

In STARZ’s July 11, 2024 first-look announcement, the network emphasized that season 7’s second half marked the series’ first return to Scotland since season three. That makes the location more than a change of scenery: it reconnects the show with the setting that shaped its earliest seasons while placing the characters in a very different stage of their lives.

The return also creates a contrast between the two major settings established in the promotional material. Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian are pulled back toward Scotland as the Revolution destabilizes the colonies, while Roger and Brianna remain caught in a story that crosses time and brings new threats to the family.

The Revolutionary War remains season 7’s larger backdrop

Season seven’s story is framed around Jamie, Claire, and their family being caught in the American Revolution. Sony’s official season-seven material describes a period in which armies are marching and British institutions are beginning to collapse under armed rebellion.

The part 2 teaser continues that pressure without promising that every event from the novels will appear exactly as written. Its broad setup is clear: political upheaval affects private loyalties, and the characters must decide what—and whom—they are prepared to protect.

How season 7B relates to Diana Gabaldon’s novels

Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon’s long-running novel series. Gabaldon identifies Outlander as the first book in the saga; the STARZ adaptation premiered in the United States on August 9, 2014.

For season-seven context, the most directly relevant source material is An Echo in the Bone, the seventh novel. Penguin Random House describes that book as involving Jamie and Claire during the American rebellion, Brianna and Roger in twentieth-century Scotland, and correspondence connecting the different timelines. The publisher also identifies Written in My Own Heart’s Blood as the eighth book in the series and part of the narrative foundation for the television adaptation.

Those books provide useful background for understanding why the Revolutionary War, Scotland, and the separated timelines matter. They should not, however, be treated as a scene-by-scene guide to season 7B. The television series adapts and rearranges material from the novels, and the official teaser does not confirm every book event as an episode outcome.

Readers who want the literary context can start with An Echo in the Bone, the seventh Outlander novel, while keeping in mind that the show’s version may differ in chronology, emphasis, and characterization.

When did Outlander season 7, part 2 premiere?

In the United States, Outlander season 7, part 2 premiered on Friday, November 22, 2024. STARZ’s corporate reporting subsequently confirmed November 22 as the season 7B premiere date, so it was not merely an unverified date from an early promotional teaser.

STARZ announced a weekly Friday release pattern, with episodes available through the STARZ app and the network’s streaming and on-demand platforms. Availability, subscription terms, and rights can vary by country and can change over time, so viewers outside the United States should check the current listings in their region rather than assume that the U.S. schedule applies everywhere.

Because the premiere has already taken place, current coverage should say that season 7B premiered on November 22, 2024—not that it “will premiere.” The original announcement can still be read as a 2024 report, but it is no longer an upcoming-release story.

Where to continue the story

Own the complete seventh season

Sony’s official home-video page lists the Outlander Season 7 Blu-ray and DVD. This is the most direct physical-media option for viewers who want the season discussed here. It is important to distinguish it from a separately packaged “part 2” release: Sony’s listing is for the complete seventh season, not necessarily a standalone season 7B disc.

Read the novel most closely connected to the season’s historical setting

An Echo in the Bone is book seven of Gabaldon’s saga and is available in physical editions including hardcover and paperback through the publisher’s catalog. It offers source-material context for Jamie and Claire’s Revolutionary War storyline and for the family’s divided timelines, but it should be approached as the novel behind the adaptation—not as a guarantee of what appears in each television episode.

Start with the beginning of the franchise

New viewers who have not watched or read Outlander may prefer to begin with Diana Gabaldon’s original Outlander novel. It is the first book in the series and provides the foundation for the characters, time-travel premise, and relationships that later seasons assume viewers already understand.

What the teaser does—and does not—confirm

Confirmed by official material Not established by the teaser alone
Season 7, part 2 premiered in the U.S. on November 22, 2024. A scene-by-scene adaptation of any particular novel chapter.
Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian return from the colonies to Scotland. That every major event from An Echo in the Bone or Written in My Own Heart’s Blood will occur unchanged.
The Revolutionary War continues to put the family under pressure. Specific character outcomes beyond the broad promotional setup.
Roger and Brianna face new enemies across time. A complete explanation of the time-crossing threat from the teaser description alone.
New episodes were scheduled weekly on Fridays through STARZ services. Current availability, pricing, or rights in every country.

The significance of the first look

The teaser’s main promise was not simply that the story would continue after the first half of season seven. It pointed to a collision of three pressures: a family divided across time, a marriage and household tested by war, and a physical return to Scotland after the show’s long American chapter.

That combination gave season 7B a distinctive transition point in the franchise. The series remained anchored in the Revolution, but the return to Scotland signaled that the world of the early seasons would again become central. At the same time, Roger and Brianna’s storyline ensured that the show’s time-spanning structure remained part of the season’s main conflict rather than a side detail.
