In Season 1, Episode 6 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Julia gives birth to a healthy boy at Castle Leathers while Henry’s search for her is stopped by a lie: a midwife tells him that Julia and the baby died. Brian and Davina each act to protect Julia and her child from Simon’s control, even as Henry is left believing he has lost them both.
Henry’s search ends with false news
Henry continues looking for Julia with Arch Bug’s help, but a series of fruitless inquiries brings him no closer to Castle Leathers. A midwife eventually tells Henry that Julia and the baby died in childbirth. The episode later reveals that Arch paid her to lie, at the laird’s request, so Henry would stop searching. Kimberly Roots’s TVLine recap of “Birthright,” published September 5, 2025, reports the deception that keeps Henry and Julia apart.
Julia goes into labor at Castle Leathers
Julia realizes her water has broken and tells Brian that the child is Henry’s. She says she had to let Simon believe the baby was his to protect the child. Brian sends for a midwife as Julia’s labor begins.
Simon wants to marry Julia and invokes a prophecy about the child. When he strikes Davina, Brian steps in and forces Simon out of the birthing room. Julia delivers a healthy boy, with Davina’s help. Brian promises the newborn that, whatever their relationship, he will always be his friend.

A flashback shows Simon coercing Davina into his bed and raping her. During Julia’s labor, Davina’s memory of being confined herself shapes her response: she sends the other women away and stays to help Julia. Her actions make her more than a witness to the birth; she chooses to offer Julia the care and protection she once lacked.
Claire’s birth and Brian’s birthday frame the episode
The episode cuts between Julia’s labor and a flashback to Claire’s birth in London, connecting the danger surrounding Julia’s child with the family story that leads to Claire. After the birth, Brian tells Julia he does not know his own birthday because it was never celebrated. Julia marks the occasion with a cake and a wish, giving the episode a quieter moment of tenderness alongside its false death report and coercive threat.

“Birthright” is the sixth episode of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the prequel centered on the romances of Jamie Fraser’s and Claire Beauchamp’s parents. Henry and Julia are Claire’s parents; before this episode, Julia has reached Castle Leathers while Henry has crossed into the past and begun searching for her. TVLine’s August 8, 2025 premiere recap establishes that setup.
