Team 7 takes the top spot—not because there is an objective way to compare every anime universe, but because a strong team is more than a collection of powerful individuals. This ranking weighs demonstrated combat ability, versatility, resilience, coordination and the group’s ability to turn its strengths into a workable win condition. It ranks teams rather than isolated characters, and treats power as an editorial judgment, not a canon measurement.
How this ranking defines a team
Anime does not share a power scale: a ninja squad, pirate crew and mecha organization operate under different rules. The order below is therefore an argued comparison, not a claim that one franchise’s canon proves its characters would beat another’s.
- Team identity: The list favors recognizable, recurring groups. It does not count a temporary crossover alliance or a fused form as a team in its own right.
- Strength: Individual combat ability matters, but so do range of abilities, durability, reliable ways to win and the ability to coordinate.
- Version: Each entry refers to the named anime group in its established series continuity, not every later upgrade, alternate timeline or film version. Some groups change substantially over time, so a different season or form could alter their placement.
WatchMojo’s 2018 “Top 10 Strongest Teams in Anime” description lists Black Bulls, Team Natsu, Phantom Troupe, Celestial Being, Team Urameshi, Straw Hat Pirates and Team 7 at positions 10 through 4, respectively; it also names several other series considered. That is a prior editorial list, not proof of a shared canon ranking, and its description does not disclose the first three places. The ranking below uses some of those candidates but makes its own case. WatchMojo’s video and description.
The 10 most powerful anime teams
1. Team 7 — Naruto
Team 7 ranks first for the balance between individual strength and tactical flexibility. Its familiar core—Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura under Kakashi—brings distinct roles rather than a single repeated approach. Its standing is also especially sensitive to the version being discussed: the team’s capabilities and membership context change across the story, so this placement is not a claim that every early-series lineup has the same power as later versions.

Coordination is part of the case, not an afterthought. The Naruto Official Site explains that shinobi team size and formation can change with mission and circumstance, and describes Shikamaru assigning roles and a formation for a retrieval mission. That illustrates why teamwork is a meaningful measure of strength, even when a group’s members are individually formidable. Naruto Official Site’s discussion of shinobi tactics.
2. Straw Hat Pirates — One Piece
The Straw Hats are a durable, varied crew whose members bring different combat styles and functions. That breadth makes them harder to reduce to a single matchup or specialist role. Their placement rewards the crew as a coordinated, recurring group, rather than treating its strongest member as a stand-in for everyone else. The exact lineup and the point in the story matter, so this is a broad series-continuity judgment rather than a ranking of one fixed roster.

3. Team Urameshi — Yu Yu Hakusho
Team Urameshi earns a high place because the group is built around combatants with complementary approaches, giving it options beyond a simple contest of force. Its case depends on the team as a unit and the battles it faces in its series—not on assuming that supernatural abilities translate directly into another franchise’s rules. The ranking places it below the two broader, more adaptable groups above it, while still treating it as one of anime’s strongest established teams.
4. The Black Bulls — Black Clover
The Black Bulls combine substantial magical capability with an unusually varied membership. That diversity gives the squad tactical possibilities that a team of near-identical specialists would lack. Their unpredictable style is an asset when it creates openings, though it also makes disciplined coordination less dependable than the best-organized teams on this list. The ranking refers to the squad, not an individual member’s strongest later form.
Rank #3

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
5. Team Dai-Gurren — Gurren Lagann
Team Dai-Gurren belongs in a ranking that considers both combat power and the ability to make a team’s combined resources count. Its mecha-centered scale is difficult to compare directly with squads from grounded or supernatural series, and the group’s capabilities shift as the story expands. That makes a single placement uncertain; here, its high ceiling earns a top-five position, while the broad comparison remains a matter of judgment.
6. Sailor Guardians — Sailor Moon
The Sailor Guardians are a recurring ensemble whose power comes from more than one member’s abilities. Their collective identity and varied contributions make them a reasonable candidate among powerful anime teams. As with other long-running groups, the version and point in the story are important; later forms should not be silently folded into every earlier lineup. Their placement reflects the team concept across the series rather than a claim about one specific battle configuration.
Rank #4

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
7. Phantom Troupe — Hunter × Hunter
The Phantom Troupe is a dangerous organization with formidable individual members, but organizational strength is not identical to reliable team coordination. Its members can be considered as a stable group without assuming they always operate as a single unit. That distinction keeps the ranking focused on the troupe as an organization rather than on a temporary collection of its strongest members acting in concert.
8. Team Natsu — Fairy Tail
Team Natsu’s case rests on a close-knit group with substantial combat ability and a mix of magical strengths. Its teamwork helps it handle threats that would be harder for one fighter to meet alone. It ranks below the teams above because raw power and close bonds do not automatically mean the widest tactical range or most dependable coordination in every encounter. The label refers to the recurring group, not the entire Fairy Tail guild.

9. Celestial Being — Mobile Suit Gundam 00
Celestial Being is an organization, not a conventional small squad, so its ranking depends on what counts as the team: its operative group and coordinated mission capability, rather than every resource associated with the wider organization. That distinction matters when comparing it with crews and named combat teams. Its strategic coordination gives it a place here, but organization-wide capacity is less directly comparable to a fixed group’s battlefield performance.
10. The Seven Deadly Sins — The Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly Sins round out the list as a recognizable ensemble of individually powerful fighters. Their combined strength makes them a natural candidate for a team ranking, but their capabilities depend on membership and story point. They take the final place because the ranking gives greater weight to consistently demonstrated group coordination and breadth than to the presence of exceptionally strong individuals alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the order is debatable
There is no established cross-franchise measurement in the cited material that can settle these placements. A list that prioritizes peak individual output could rank the groups differently from one that emphasizes teamwork, stable lineups or tactical versatility. The WatchMojo list is useful as a record of earlier editorial choices, but its named candidates and placements do not establish canon facts about which team is strongest. Likewise, the Naruto Official Site’s account of mission-dependent formations supports the importance of tactics; it does not prove that Team 7 would defeat a team from another universe.
For a fair comparison, specify the lineup and point in each series, distinguish an organization from a field team, and say whether temporary upgrades count. Without those limits, “strongest team” can quietly become “strongest character,” “largest organization” or “most powerful form”—three different questions.
