Spoilers for the Season 5 finale. Mayor Beau Tillman, played by Keegan-Michael Key, killed Lester, the Arconia’s longtime doorman. The episode, reported as “The House Always…,” aired October 28, 2025; its answer ties Lester’s death to an affair, a fatal fight, and the plan to turn the Arconia into a casino.
Who killed Lester?
Mayor Beau Tillman killed Lester. Lester had intervened in a fight between Tillman and Nicky Caccimelio, whose wife, Sofia, was having an affair with the mayor. During the fight, Nicky was fatally stabbed with a cleaver that had severed one of Tillman’s fingers. Lester fled with the finger, but Tillman caught up with him in the Arconia courtyard and shoved him into the fountain. Lester struck his head and died. TVLine’s finale recap details the confrontation; TheWrap’s finale explainer also connects the murder to the casino plot.
How does Lester’s murder connect to the casino plan?
The confrontation brings together Tillman’s personal relationship with Sofia and the effort to protect the proposed casino conversion of the Arconia. The investigation by Charles, Oliver, and Mabel exposes a conspiracy involving powerful business interests. Jay Pflug, Camila White, and Bash Steed turn themselves in for their roles as accessories to murder. Camila’s casino bid is reversed, and the Arconia is saved. The finale does not establish that all three faced identical charges.
What happens to the other characters?
After a three-month time jump, the Arconia has new tenants. Sofia is in Positano, while Howard is now coupled with Vinny, one of the Caccimelio brothers. These glimpses close out the season’s immediate aftermath before the trio encounter a new mystery.

Is Cinda Canning dead, and who is the next victim?
The finale’s apparent reveal is that Cinda Canning is the next victim. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel listen to her new podcast, “The Girl With the Curls,” about a red-haired young woman in London accused of killing a royal descendant. A woman then appears to fall to her death outside the Arconia gates, and the reveal identifies her as Cinda. TVLine notes ambiguity over whether the dead woman is truly Cinda or a lookalike, so the ending presents her death as an apparent reveal rather than a fully settled fact. The cliffhanger sends the trio toward London.
Series co-creator John Hoffman described bringing Cinda back as “an opportunity to look at that character — basically the one who started it all for our trio — felt like too rich an opportunity.” TVLine’s recap and interview reports the comment.
