Start by identifying where the failure occurs: OneStream may not connect to your YouTube account, YouTube may not receive the feed, a scheduled event may not start, or the stream may reach YouTube but play incorrectly. Then check the connected account, the workflow and event, the server URL and stream key if you use an encoder or Custom RTMP, and finally the media and network. The right fix depends on which stage is failing.
First, identify what “not streaming” means
OneStream’s workflows have different controls and failure points. Determine which one you are using before changing settings: pre-recorded video, OneStream Studio, encoder streaming, or Custom RTMP. Then check whether the problem happens before YouTube receives a feed or after it does.
- OneStream cannot connect to YouTube: check the connected account and destination.
- YouTube Live Control Room shows no incoming feed: check the selected event and, for encoder or Custom RTMP, the server URL and stream key.
- A scheduled pre-recorded stream does not start: check the schedule, destination, and upload or processing status.
- YouTube receives the feed but playback is wrong: check the source file, encoding, and audio and video playback.
OneStream describes these as distinct ways to go live and treats connection, scheduling, media, and playback problems as separate troubleshooting categories (OneStream workflow overview; OneStream troubleshooting guidance).
Check that the correct YouTube account is connected
- In OneStream, open Social Platforms.
- Confirm that the intended YouTube account appears in the platform list and is connected.
- Verify that the channel shown is the channel where you want the stream to appear.
- If the wrong account is connected or the destination is disconnected, reconnect or select the intended account before editing the stream.
OneStream’s setup instructions require connecting the YouTube account and selecting the channel before scheduling a pre-recorded stream. A correct stream setup cannot compensate for a destination connected to the wrong account (OneStream setup instructions).

For a scheduled pre-recorded stream, check the event and upload
- Confirm that the intended YouTube destination or event is selected in OneStream.
- Check that the scheduled date and time are correct.
- Make sure the video upload completed and processing finished before the scheduled start.
- Play the source recording locally. If it already has missing picture, silent audio, or an early stop, correct or replace the source before changing YouTube settings.
OneStream lists incomplete upload or processing, incorrect scheduling, and invalid or disconnected destinations among possible causes of a pre-recorded stream failing to start or play correctly (OneStream troubleshooting guidance).
Check the recording’s format and playback
For its pre-recorded workflow, OneStream recommends MP4 with H.264 (AVC) video and AAC audio, a constant 30 or 60 FPS, and 720p or 1080p. These are OneStream recommendations, not a guarantee that every source file or destination will accept every combination (OneStream pre-recorded video guidance).

For an encoder or Custom RTMP, verify the endpoint and key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room for the intended event and check its current server URL and stream key.
- Compare those values with the destination configured in OneStream or your encoder. Correct any stale or mismatched value.
- If you selected RTMPS, make sure you copied the RTMPS server URL—not the ordinary RTMP URL shown by default in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Do not share the stream key in a screenshot or public support post. Treat it like a password; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the connected setup.
OneStream’s Custom RTMP workflow uses a stream URL and key. YouTube Help explains: “You can stream to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” YouTube provides a separate procedure and endpoint for RTMPS (YouTube Help: stream with an encoder; OneStream Custom RTMP guidance).
If you are streaming a YouTube Short through OneStream
For the specific Custom RTMP workflow documented for YouTube Shorts, OneStream says to generate a new stream key for each new Short and update it in OneStream before going live. This instruction applies to that Shorts workflow; it does not establish that every ordinary YouTube event needs a new key (OneStream Shorts guidance).

Check network stability after destination setup
If the account, event, URL, and key are correct but the feed still cannot reach YouTube reliably, check whether your upload connection is stable and sufficient for the bitrate you selected. OneStream recommends Ethernet when possible; a wired connection can help with instability, but it cannot fix a wrong account, stale key, incorrect event, or unfinished media processing.
OneStream’s troubleshooting material gives these own-service recommendations: minimum video bitrate of 1.5 Mbps for 720p and 3 Mbps for 1080p, at least 10 Mbps upload speed, and 25 Mbps or higher as ideal. These are OneStream Help Center recommendations, not independent measurements or a promise that a stream will succeed (OneStream troubleshooting guidance).

OneStream documents RTMP, RTMPS, WHIP, and SRT among its encoder protocols. Switching protocols is not a universal YouTube fix: use the endpoint required by the destination and a protocol compatible with your encoder. For a “failed to connect to server — connection timed out” message, check YouTube’s endpoint and connectivity guidance before changing unrelated settings (YouTube encoder and connection guidance; OneStream protocol guidance).

OneStream says it is sending, but YouTube shows no incoming feed
Check that the selected YouTube event is the one you are watching in Live Control Room. For an encoder or Custom RTMP setup, recheck the server URL and key against that event. Note the exact YouTube connection status or warning; it helps distinguish a missing or mismatched endpoint from a feed that is arriving but failing during playback.

YouTube receives a feed, but viewers see a blank screen or no audio
Play the source recording locally and check that its picture and sound are present. For pre-recorded video, confirm upload and processing completed and review the file’s format and encoding. If you use an encoder, inspect the encoder’s output and settings rather than changing the YouTube account connection when YouTube is already receiving the feed.
The stream starts and then stops early
Check whether the source itself ends or has a playback problem, whether the uploaded file processed fully, and whether the connection is stable. Compare the YouTube event status with OneStream’s status to establish whether the interruption occurred before or after YouTube received the feed.
Common causes and fixes
| What you see | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OneStream does not show the intended YouTube destination | Account connection or channel selection | Open Social Platforms, connect or select the intended account, and verify the channel. |
| A scheduled recording does not start | Event, schedule, upload, processing, or destination | Confirm the selected event and scheduled time; verify upload and processing are complete and the destination is valid. |
| YouTube Live Control Room shows no feed | Event selection, server URL, or stream key | Check the event and compare the endpoint and key with the current values in YouTube Live Control Room. |
| Connection times out | Endpoint, protocol, or network connectivity | Confirm the destination-required URL and compatible protocol; follow YouTube’s connectivity guidance and test a stable connection. |
| Video is blank, silent, or cuts off | Source playback, encoding, upload, or processing | Play the file locally, confirm processing finished, and review the media or encoder output. |
| Connection is unstable despite correct setup | Upload stability | Check upload capacity for the chosen bitrate and try Ethernet where available. |
If the standard checks do not solve it
Gather the details that separate an account, event, endpoint, network, and playback issue before contacting support:
- The OneStream workflow in use: pre-recorded, Studio, encoder, or Custom RTMP.
- The exact OneStream status or error.
- The exact message or connection status shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Whether YouTube shows an incoming feed.
- For scheduled video, whether upload and processing completed and which event and start time were selected.
Do not include your stream key in screenshots or public messages. The available setup information does not establish your account eligibility, a current service outage, the validity of a particular key, or the settings of your encoder; those details need to be checked against the specific failure.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than diagnose this OneStream setup, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for that use: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
