Offaly-made short documentary Closed For Lunch was selected for the short documentaries programme at the Disappear Here Film Festival in Ballyliffin, Donegal. Offaly Independent reported on October 6, 2026, that it was scheduled to screen at Ballyliffin Hotel on October 17 at 4 p.m.
What Closed For Lunch is about
The short explores personal stories from Offaly’s peat industry through the shared experience of lunchtime. It combines interviews with people from different generations involved in the industry with archive footage showing factories through the years.

Who made the film
Offaly-based Mixed Bag Media produced Closed For Lunch through FilmOffaly’s Documentary Mentorship Scheme, with support from the EU’s Just Transition Fund. Five local filmmakers received documentary-skills training from IFTA-nominated filmmaker Garret Daly, then collaborated on the film and took on production roles, earning their first professional production credit.
Co-director Helen Keenan said: “The Film Offaly Documentary Mentorship Scheme was a fantastic opportunity for us to upskill and connect with other aspiring filmmakers.”

The group has also made Just For The Record, a short about the development of the Midlands music scene, from the showband years through the streaming age. The October 6 report does not establish that either film is available to buy, stream or watch outside the announced festival screening.
