OBS YouTube Live Stream Disconnecting in India: Network Settings to Check

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If OBS keeps dropping frames or disconnecting from YouTube, first check OBS’s network dropped-frame counter and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. Then lower the video bitrate to suit your stable upload speed, test a wired connection, and isolate OBS network settings and software interference one change at a time. The official troubleshooting guidance is general: it does not establish a special India-only setting or identify a particular Indian ISP or route as the cause.

How to tell whether the problem is your network

In OBS, watch the network “Dropped frames” counter and connection indicator. If the counter keeps increasing or the indicator turns yellow or red, OBS’s guidance points to an unstable connection to the streaming service or a connection that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Enough dropped frames can disconnect the stream. OBS sends directly from your computer to the streaming service; the OBS Project does not provide an intermediary server. OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide says this is typically outside OBS Studio’s control.

Also open YouTube Live Control Room and check stream-health messages. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. A stream that looks poor is not automatically a network problem: use OBS’s network dropped-frame indicator as evidence rather than treating every lag or visual-quality complaint as the same symptom.

Set a bitrate your upload connection can sustain

Run an upload speed test before streaming, as YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends. Use a stable result, not a brief peak. OBS’s guide suggests starting video bitrate at about 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a troubleshooting starting point, not a guarantee: leave headroom for normal variation and other network traffic, and make sure the chosen bitrate also fits YouTube’s recommendation for your codec, resolution, and frame rate.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For example, if your connection reliably sustains 8 Mbps upload, 75% gives a 6 Mbps video-bitrate starting point. That is an arithmetic example based on OBS guidance, not a claim about any particular Indian broadband service.

YouTube-recommended bitrate reference

The figures below are YouTube’s published minimum and recommended bitrates, accessed in 2026. They are encoder guidance, not a promise that an individual internet connection can deliver them without interruption.

Resolution and frame rate Codec Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
1080p, 60 fps H.264 6 Mbps 17 Mbps
1080p, 30 fps H.264 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p, 60 fps AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 12 Mbps
1080p, 30 fps AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 10 Mbps
720p, 60 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p, 30 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p, 60 fps AV1 or H.265 6 Mbps 6 Mbps
720p, 30 fps AV1 or H.265 6 Mbps 6 Mbps

Choose the row matching the encoder’s actual output. If your stable upload cannot support the recommended range with room to spare, reduce video bitrate, resolution, or frame rate and test again instead of planning around a speed-test burst.

Check OBS’s network settings

  1. In OBS, open Settings → Output and reduce the video bitrate. Apply the change and run a test stream while watching the dropped-frame counter and YouTube stream health.
  2. Open Settings → Advanced → Network. Set Bind to IP to Default.
  3. In the same Network settings, try IP Family set to IPv4 Only as a reversible diagnostic. If it does not help, restore the default IPv4 and IPv6 option. This test does not mean IPv6 is generally the cause of YouTube disconnections.
  4. If you use Windows, try Enable network optimizations and Enable TCP pacing. OBS notes that users have reported improvement and that these options add useful log detail; they are not guaranteed fixes.
  5. Use Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta) only as a fallback if you cannot resolve the underlying connection problem. It can lower bitrate during congestion, but may also reduce video quality.

These settings are from the OBS Project’s network troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024.

Test Wi-Fi, your router, and software interference

Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet

If the streaming computer is on Wi-Fi, connect it to the router by Ethernet and run the same kind of test. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A wired test helps distinguish a local wireless problem from an issue elsewhere on the route; it cannot rule out ISP or upstream congestion. Change one factor at a time. If you need a cable for the test, use a suitable Ethernet cable.

Isolate network software

  • Temporarily test with VPN software disconnected. If stability changes, investigate the VPN route rather than assuming OBS itself is at fault.
  • Check whether antivirus or firewall software is interfering. If a temporary test identifies a conflict, add an OBS exception and re-enable the security software rather than leaving protection disabled.
  • Look for manufacturer or bundled network-prioritization utilities that may deprioritize OBS traffic.
  • Update network drivers using the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s support source.

Check the network hardware path

Reboot the modem and router if they have general connectivity trouble. A modem, router, cable, network card, switch, or extender can contribute to a fault, but intermittent streaming alone is not proof that a component needs replacing. If you are unsure, OBS recommends talking to your ISP before replacing hardware.

Verify YouTube encoder settings and test before the event

Network changes will not correct an encoder mismatch. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, CBR bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data into and through Google’s servers. Check the guidance for the workflow and codec you are actually using; a mismatch by itself is not proof of a network fault.

Before a broadcast, test with audio and motion similar to the real programme, then monitor YouTube stream health and its messages during the event. For 4K/2160, YouTube says low-latency improvement is unavailable and streams use normal latency.

When to contact your ISP

If a suitable bitrate, wired testing, OBS network checks, and software isolation do not stop the disconnections, contact your ISP. Provide useful evidence rather than reporting only that “OBS is lagging”:

  • Dates and timestamps of disconnections.
  • Whether OBS’s network dropped-frame counter increased and how the connection indicator appeared.
  • OBS logs and YouTube Live Control Room stream-health messages.
  • Upload test results, including whether they were repeatable rather than a single peak.
  • Whether the computer was on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether reducing bitrate or using another network changed the result.

OBS notes that unexpected route congestion or ISP-side changes can cause streaming issues. The available official guidance does not identify a responsible Indian ISP, region, or route, so one user’s results should not be generalized into a nationwide fault.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep uploaded videos playing on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a different option from troubleshooting a live OBS session: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without leaving your computer, OBS, or home connection on. Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.

Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
