Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoose OBS if church volunteers need to operate a visual program with scenes, graphics, or changes during the stream. Choose FFmpeg if playback is fixed and a technically confident operator can configure and supervise a command-line process. Neither is inherently more reliable: both depend on the computer or server, network, correct YouTube settings, monitoring, and a recovery plan. For churches that would rather not keep a local computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative that loops uploaded videos on YouTube.
OBS or FFmpeg: which fits your church?
| Consideration | OBS | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| How you operate it | Visual streaming software. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. A volunteer can see and control a composed program. | Command-line media tool. The operator configures a command and supporting environment; this suits a fixed file-playout pipeline. |
| Good fit | Worship programming that needs scene changes, graphics, overlays, or active visual operation. | Prerecorded playback or a scripted sequence where a visual production interface is unnecessary. |
| Looping and stream handling | Can serve as a streaming encoder. The official sources cited here do not document a specific OBS playlist configuration for this exact 24/7 church workflow. | FFmpeg documents options including -stream_loop -1 for infinite looping, -re to read at native rate, and -c copy to copy compatible streams without decoding or re-encoding. |
| Monitoring and recovery | Shows connection status and dropped-frame indicators. It connects directly to the streaming destination rather than through OBS-operated servers. | Logs, monitoring, and restart behavior depend on what the operator configures for the process and host. The command itself is not a turnkey recovery system. |
| Cost and infrastructure | The software is listed by YouTube as no-charge; a capable computer and ongoing operation are still needed. | The software is free, but total ownership costs are not established by the cited documentation. A computer or server and technical operator may be needed. |
This is workflow guidance, not a benchmark. No head-to-head uptime evidence establishes that OBS or FFmpeg is more dependable for a church’s continuous channel.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until the planned launch. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- The YouTube stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a shared command, screenshot, or volunteer document.
- A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the selected video bitrate plus ordinary network variation. Choose settings for the connection you actually have, not just the desired resolution.
- A representative test video and a plan for monitoring, restarting, and preserving recordings or archives.
Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Check the current options in your channel and encoder before going live: YouTube Live encoder settings.
| 1080p30 video format | YouTube recommendation | YouTube minimum |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s platform settings for 1080p30, not a promise that a particular church connection can sustain them. Set the bitrate below the stable upload capacity confirmed by measurement, leaving room for fluctuations. If the connection struggles, reduce bitrate or resolution rather than assuming the encoder can compensate.

YouTube’s advanced audio recommendations include stereo AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Use a two-second keyframe interval where the encoder exposes it, and keep it within YouTube’s four-second maximum. Matching these settings does not replace testing the actual source file and connection.
Set up a fixed prerecorded stream with FFmpeg
FFmpeg is a reasonable fit when a single file or planned sequence is the whole program and the operator is comfortable managing a command-line process. The exact command depends on the file’s codecs and the YouTube ingest settings. This example loops a file and re-encodes it to H.264/AAC with CBR-style rate control; replace the placeholders with the actual file, stream key, and a bitrate selected for the connection.

The 10 Mbps video value is YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30; it is not appropriate for every connection or source. The GOP values shown correspond to a two-second interval at 30 fps. Confirm the output codec, dimensions, frame rate, and keyframe interval for your file and selected YouTube settings. This example is not a universal command or a tested church configuration. If the source already matches the desired output format, FFmpeg’s -c copy can copy compatible streams without re-encoding; it cannot correct incompatible codecs or change their properties.
- Enable live streaming early. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time live-stream enablement.
- Prepare and inspect the media. Confirm the file plays through, has the intended audio, and uses a format that the chosen FFmpeg output can handle. Test the whole planned loop, including the transition from end to beginning.
- Configure the command. Use
-refor real-time file reading and-stream_loop -1for infinite looping. Set codecs, rate control, frame rate, audio, and keyframes to match YouTube’s current guidance. - Protect the stream key. Avoid putting it in public logs or shared scripts. Limit access to the machine and whoever must maintain the stream.
- Run a representative test and monitor it. Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and the process output. A successful command launch alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving healthy video and audio.
- Provide process supervision. Decide who will notice a stopped process, network failure, or host reboot and how it will be restarted. FFmpeg’s looping option repeats the input; it does not by itself guarantee process recovery or uninterrupted delivery.
Set up OBS when volunteers need visual control
OBS is generally the more approachable fit when operators need to see the program, switch scenes, or manage visual elements. The precise playlist-source setup depends on the OBS version and church workflow; the sources cited here do not establish a church-specific configuration. Use the current OBS interface and help material for the installed version rather than relying on assumed menu labels.

- Enable YouTube live streaming and create a stream in Studio. Copy the server URL and stream key, keeping the key private.
- Build the program in OBS. Add the prerecorded video source and any required graphics or audio; arrange the scenes needed for the worship channel. Confirm that the video source repeats as intended using the controls available in your installed OBS version.
- Set the output to match YouTube. Choose RTMPS where available, configure the selected resolution and frame rate, set CBR video bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, and select compatible audio such as AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
- Connect and test. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the streaming destination settings, then start a private or otherwise appropriate test stream. Verify YouTube’s stream health and listen to the audio.
- Watch OBS diagnostics during operation. Connection status and dropped-frame counts can reveal trouble. Rising dropped frames point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; reduce the bitrate or address the network issue before relying on the stream.
- Plan for the computer and operator. Keep the host powered and prevent sleep or shutdown. Assign someone to monitor the stream and respond to a failed connection, application crash, or power loss.
Plan archives separately from the live event
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving of one uninterrupted 24-hour event as a single video. If preserving the worship program matters, decide separately how to retain source files and recordings, and verify YouTube’s current archive workflow before relying on it. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Common problems and practical fixes
- Live streaming is not available yet: A first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Enable it well ahead of the service and confirm the channel is ready in Studio.
- YouTube reports an unhealthy stream: Check the stream URL, key, and ingest protocol, then verify codec, CBR, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current settings.
- OBS dropped frames rise: The connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the chosen bitrate. Measure upload performance, reduce bitrate or resolution, and test again.
- FFmpeg exits or stops sending: Inspect the process output and host logs, check file readability and network access, and ensure a supervisor or responsible operator can restart it. Infinite input looping does not restart an exited process.
- Video repeats but the audio is wrong or absent: Test the exact source and complete loop, check the selected audio stream and output settings, and verify audio at YouTube rather than relying only on local playback.
- The stream runs longer than 12 hours and no archive is available: Do not assume one continuous 24-hour event will be automatically archived. Preserve the source or make an independent recording and confirm the current YouTube options.
Or let it run in the cloud

Which should your church choose?
Use OBS when visual operation and volunteer-accessible scene control are central. Use FFmpeg when the channel is fixed prerecorded playout and someone can maintain the command, host, and monitoring. In either case, test the real content and connection, protect the stream key, and assign responsibility for recovery; documented features do not establish which setup will deliver better uptime in your church.
