Short answer: OBS can run a 24/7 YouTube stream from India if the computer stays on and your actual upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate with room to spare. A cloud service removes your PC and home broadband from the stream’s ongoing delivery path after upload, making it a better fit when you do not want to keep local equipment running. Neither option bypasses YouTube’s live-streaming, copyright, or archive limits.
OBS or cloud: which should you choose?
For a prerecorded video or playlist that needs to loop continuously, the choice is mainly about what you want to keep running. OBS encodes and uploads from your computer. A cloud service sends the stream from provider-hosted infrastructure. YouTube’s encoding recommendations do not change by country: the relevant factors are codec, resolution, and frame rate. The figures below are platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian broadband performance.
| Decision | OBS on your computer | Cloud service |
|---|---|---|
| What sends the stream | Your computer encodes and uploads directly to YouTube. | The provider’s system sends the stream after you upload the media and configure the service. |
| Home broadband dependency | Requires sustained upload from the location where the computer is running. | Your home upload is used to send media to the provider; it is not the stream’s ongoing outbound path in StreamNeo’s upload-and-loop workflow. |
| Setup and control | OBS offers local scene and encoder controls; your computer and network must remain on. | StreamNeo is designed for uploaded videos and playlists, with the stream running in the cloud. |
| Recovery | You need to monitor connection health and address dropped frames or interruptions. | StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. This does not guarantee that YouTube or the provider will never have an outage. |
| Best fit | You have a capable computer that can stay on, stable measured upload, and want direct production control. | You want a prerecorded YouTube stream to continue without relying on a home PC or broadband connection. |
For this cloud option, StreamNeo is the first service to consider: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day without a card.
Can OBS stream 24/7 on Indian broadband?
Possibly, but a single speed-test result is not enough to establish that a connection will hold an uninterrupted stream overnight or through household peak usage. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Other people or devices using the connection can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS.

Measure sustained upload at the actual location and during the hours you plan to stream. YouTube’s speed-test guidance emphasizes upload speed, not download speed. Test with the computer, router, and intended encoder settings in place; then monitor the stream under realistic household network use. No India-specific broadband performance figure is established here, so use your own connection’s results rather than treating YouTube’s encoding bitrate as a local ISP guarantee.
Choose OBS settings for YouTube
Start with YouTube’s H.264 guidance, then test whether your local connection and computer can sustain the selected settings. YouTube’s figures are recommendations for sending video to its platform, not promises that a connection at that speed will be stable.

For YouTube ingest, use RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. OBS’s CPU requirements vary with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity; a computer that can open OBS may still struggle to encode continuously. If OBS reports encoding overload, reduce the workload or output settings and test again.
Set up a 24/7 stream in OBS
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. Complete channel verification and any required live-stream activation before the planned start. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until the start time.
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Prepare the prerecorded content in OBS. Add the video source or playlist workflow you intend to use and confirm that it plays as expected. Check both picture and audio; a stream can be connected successfully while the media itself is silent, frozen, or framed incorrectly.
- Set encoder output. Select H.264, RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and an appropriate resolution, frame rate, and bitrate from YouTube’s recommendations. If your connection or encoder cannot sustain the setting, lower it and retest instead of assuming the nominal broadband speed will suffice.
- Test the real workload before relying on it. Preview the stream, use representative motion and audio, and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Run the test long enough to reveal dropped frames or other instability; a momentary speed test cannot show overnight reliability.
- Keep the system available. The computer, OBS, network hardware, and connection must remain operational for the local stream to continue. Disable sleep or shutdown behaviors that would interrupt the session, and monitor the stream periodically.
Troubleshoot dropped frames and interruptions
OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. Its troubleshooting guidance suggests about 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing dropped frames; this is troubleshooting advice, not a guarantee of stable service. YouTube separately recommends 20% upload headroom. Treat both as prompts to test conservatively rather than as assurances.

- Dropped frames or unstable connection: Reduce the bitrate and test again. Use Ethernet if practical. Check whether other devices are consuming upload capacity.
- Wi-Fi interruptions: Try a wired connection. If problems continue, inspect the router or modem, Ethernet cable, network drivers, and the route to YouTube.
- Problems that appear with a VPN or security software: Temporarily investigate whether a VPN, firewall, or other security software is interfering with the stream connection; do not leave protections disabled as a permanent fix.
- Recurring faults despite local checks: Contact your ISP and ask about upload stability and routing to YouTube. A high advertised or momentary speed does not establish that the route will remain stable at your selected bitrate.
- Video or audio fails while the connection looks healthy: Check the OBS source, media playback, audio routing, and encoder load separately from network health.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 stream?
Do not count on one complete YouTube archive for a very long broadcast. YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local archive backup. If preservation matters, record the program separately and verify that the recording has enough storage and continues to capture correctly. Cloud delivery does not remove this YouTube archive limit.
Copyright, live eligibility, and reused video
Cloud hosting or OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast a documentary, music, footage, or any other material. Use content you own or are authorized to stream, including the necessary rights to its audio and any embedded third-party material. Check YouTube’s current channel eligibility and live-streaming requirements before scheduling a broadcast; a working encoder cannot enable live access if the channel is not eligible.

Replaying existing material is not a substitute for meeting YouTube’s monetization policies. Copyright compliance and monetization eligibility are separate questions: permission to stream a work does not by itself guarantee monetization, and a stream’s format does not establish that reused content meets YouTube’s policies. Review YouTube’s current rules for the specific content and channel before relying on revenue or long-term availability.
