Recommended OBS settings for a Tamil song playlist
These are practical starting settings for a mostly static image or low-motion visualizer, not a test on your particular computer or internet connection. Match OBS output to the source and choose a bitrate your upload can sustain consistently.

YouTube’s H.264 bitrate guidance, accessed in 2026, is:

These are YouTube’s platform figures, not a guarantee that your connection will deliver without interruption. YouTube advises selecting a quality suitable for the available upload connection. Low-motion material may work at a lower bitrate than high-motion video, but test before relying on a reduced setting. Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
OBS menu names can vary slightly by version and operating system. In general, use the Video and Output settings to configure picture and encoding, then enter the YouTube stream key in the streaming service settings. Do not share the key: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Prepare the playlist. Add the intended song files and artwork or visualizer to an OBS scene. Arrange and test playback in the intended order. OBS is the encoder and scene tool here; confirm that your chosen playback method actually advances or loops the songs as intended before broadcasting.
- Set the picture. In OBS, open Settings > Video. Set the output resolution and frame rate to 1920×1080 at 30 fps for the starting setup, or 1280×720 at 30 fps for the fallback. Use progressive output, square pixels, SDR and Rec. 709 if your available controls expose them. Avoid upscaling low-resolution artwork merely to select a larger stream resolution.
- Configure encoding. Open Settings > Output and select the streaming output settings. Choose H.264, set rate control to CBR, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Set the video bitrate to a value appropriate for the selected resolution and a connection test; YouTube’s recommended figures are 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 8 Mbps for 720p30. If the connection cannot hold the target reliably, lower the bitrate or step down to 720p30.
- Set audio. In the streaming audio output, choose AAC stereo at 128 Kbps. Set stereo sample rate to 44.1 kHz where the setting is available. Check that the playlist audio is audible, not clipping, and synchronized with any visual movement.
- Connect YouTube. In OBS streaming settings, choose the YouTube service and connect your account or enter the stream key provided in YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key as private. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingestion; use the available YouTube service or server option supported by your OBS setup.
- Run a private or unannounced test. Use the same playlist audio and visual movement planned for the real stream. Check the audio level, sync, image, and YouTube stream-health indicators before announcing the broadcast. YouTube detects encoder settings and transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but that does not replace testing your own upload.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Watch OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame counter as well as YouTube’s stream health. If the stream remains healthy and the image and sound are right, keep the tested settings. If not, use the troubleshooting steps below before restarting.
Check music rights before going live
Possessing a song file, buying a track, or seeing it described as “free” does not establish that you may stream it. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other rights participants.

For each song, check permissions for both the sound recording and the underlying composition. Confirm the territories covered and whether the permission includes live streaming and any archive or replay that will remain available afterward. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. A detected match may trigger a warning and replacement with a placeholder; if the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream.
A license may not be enough to prevent an interruption: YouTube says a licensed third-party stream may still be interrupted unless the rights owner has allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Ask the relevant rights owner whether allowlisting is required and confirm it has been done before relying on the license. YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain music or music used with permission, and warns that calling a track “free” does not prevent a Content ID match. Creator Music usage terms vary by track; the reviewed guidance says Creator Music revenue-sharing tracks cannot be used in live streams, so it is not a shortcut for clearing a live playlist.

Troubleshoot audio, picture and connection problems
- Dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator: OBS says these can mean the connection to the streaming service is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Check upload performance, pause other heavy network traffic, and reduce bitrate or resolution if needed. If local Wi-Fi instability is the cause and your computer and router support it, try wired Ethernet. A cable cannot increase your ISP’s upload capacity, and it will not help if your wired connection is already stable.
- Stream is healthy, but audio clips or sounds distorted: Check OBS audio meters and reduce the source or mixer level if peaks are clipping. Test the actual playlist material rather than relying on a silent scene.
- Audio and visualizer are out of sync: Check the source playback and any audio delay settings, then test the same content again before going live. A static image avoids visual-sync concerns that may arise with an animated visualizer.
- YouTube warns about copyright or replaces the stream: Do not assume a warning will clear on its own. Stop and check the matched content, permissions for the recording and composition, territory and live-use scope, and any Content ID allowlisting requirement with the rights owner.
- The image is blurry or text is hard to read: Confirm that the source artwork is sufficiently detailed and that the test stream is stable at the chosen resolution. A higher output setting cannot improve a low-resolution original.
