To loop one store promo in OBS, add it to a scene as a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. For YouTube Live, start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a resolution and bitrate your store’s upload connection can sustain. Test from the actual connection before relying on the stream.
Set up a single promo video to loop in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the promo. Under Sources, choose + and add a Media Source.
- Give the source a recognizable name, then select the video file from the store computer. Enable Loop so playback restarts when the file ends.
- Check the other playback options: Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled by default, and Show nothing when playback ends is also enabled by default. The Loop setting should prevent the file from reaching an ended state during normal playback, but preview the scene to confirm the transition works as intended.
- Check that the video fits the canvas and that its audio is audible at an appropriate level. Preview a complete pass or enough of the file to confirm that the end returns cleanly to the beginning.
OBS documents a VLC Video source for a playlist of multiple files. VLC must be installed for that source to appear, and Loop Playlist is on by default. For a single promo file, use the standard Media Source.
Choose YouTube Live encoder settings
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance provides the baseline below for a standard dynamic range (SDR) stream. The bitrate figures are YouTube ingestion recommendations for H.264, not a guarantee that any particular store connection can sustain them.

Match resolution and bitrate to the connection
YouTube recommends running a speed test and choosing a quality that is reliable on the available upload connection. Its H.264 guidance lists these example video bitrates:

These are general YouTube recommendations, not India-specific presets. Test the connection the store will actually use, at the time and from the location where the stream will run. Leave capacity for normal network variation; if OBS or YouTube reports unstable health, reduce the resolution or bitrate and test again. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, so the encoder bitrate is not a promise that every viewer receives that exact quality.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel.
- In OBS, open Settings and select Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter or select the server and stream key as appropriate for the OBS version and connection flow. If OBS offers a YouTube account connection instead, follow its prompts and confirm the correct channel is selected.
- Apply the settings, return to the main OBS window, and start streaming only when the scene, audio, and loop have been checked.
Exact control placement can vary by OBS version and whether you connect an account or enter a key manually. The essential details are the correct YouTube stream destination and the matching stream key. Do not publish or share the key; replace it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.

Test before making the promo public
- Start with an OBS preview and confirm the promo loops, the picture is framed correctly, and representative audio and motion are present.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube’s instruction is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Review YouTube’s stream-health messages and watch the audio and video during the test. If health is unstable, lower the output resolution or bitrate, then repeat the test from the store’s real connection.
- When the preview and health checks are satisfactory, start the live event in the Live Control Room if the stream is scheduled or awaiting publication.
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to use live streaming. Check eligibility before planning a store broadcast. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; stop the encoder when the event is over rather than leaving it running unintentionally.
Copyright and promo content checks
Before streaming, make sure the store has the rights needed for every element in the video, including music, footage, images, and any third-party material. A video being available online or licensed for in-store playback does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it on YouTube. Review YouTube’s copyright and live-stream requirements for the channel and content you plan to use. Keep documentation for material you own or have licensed, and replace anything whose rights are unclear before going live.

Looping is a playback setting, not a way around YouTube’s rules. A repeated promo still needs to comply with applicable copyright requirements and YouTube policies.
Common problems and fixes
- The promo stops at the end: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. Preview the source to verify that it restarts.
- A playlist source is missing: The documented VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. Install it, restart OBS if necessary, and use VLC Video for multiple files; use Media Source for one file.
- YouTube does not show a preview: Confirm OBS is sending to the intended stream URL and that the stream key matches the stream in Live Control Room. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Stream health is poor or video drops: Run a speed test on the actual store connection. Reduce resolution or bitrate to a level that remains stable, then test again while watching YouTube’s health status.
- There is no sound or the picture is wrong: Check the selected file, OBS audio meters and output, source visibility, and canvas framing. Test with representative promo content before publishing.
- The channel cannot start a live stream: Verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions within the preceding 90 days.
