For a Punjabi Gurbani playlist stream with a still image or slowly changing artwork, start with OBS set to 720p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS. YouTube recommends an H.264 video bitrate of 8 Mbps for 720p30; for sharper text or artwork, 1080p30 at 14 Mbps is a reasonable upgrade if your encoder and connection can sustain it. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular computer or internet connection can deliver a stable stream.
Recommended OBS settings for a Gurbani playlist
A playlist stream is usually audio-led, with a static or slowly changing visual. In that case, 30 fps is generally sufficient; higher frame rates do not improve the music and can increase encoding and bandwidth demands. Begin with the conservative profile below, then test at the resolution you intend to use.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | Good starting point for static or slow artwork, especially when upload capacity is limited. |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | Use when titles and artwork benefit from extra detail and the computer and network remain stable. |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | Consider only if the visual has motion that benefits from 60 fps; otherwise 30 fps is simpler. |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | Choose only when motion justifies it and encoding and network capacity support it. |
These figures are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations. YouTube’s bitrate guidance varies by codec, so do not apply H.264 numbers automatically if you choose H.265/HEVC or AV1. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 ingestion, up to 60 fps, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. For a broadly compatible OBS setup, H.264 is a straightforward starting choice. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Resolution, frame rate, and bandwidth
Choose 720p30 if the visual is mostly a cover image, logo, or simple title card. Use 1080p30 if small lettering or artwork detail needs to remain clearer on larger screens and your system can reliably encode it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the full stream bitrate. Test upload speed under the actual household or venue conditions you will stream in: other users and devices can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS below the internet plan’s headline speed. If upload capacity fluctuates or OBS reports dropped frames, lower bitrate or resolution rather than pushing a stream that repeatedly stalls. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and YouTube’s network guidance.

Audio for devotional music
YouTube’s listed stereo starting guidance is 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. In OBS, confirm the intended playback source is being captured, keep the audio sample rate consistent across the playback chain where possible, and watch the audio meters so the signal does not clip. A meter moving is useful, but it does not establish that the correct playlist is audible or that it sounds clean; listen to a test stream or its preview before relying on it.
Connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. Use the Live Control Room to retrieve the server URL and stream key. The stream key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it; treat it as a password.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube or YouTube RTMPS if offered by the integration. Otherwise, use the server URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the feed between the encoder and Google’s servers. If a key is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- In OBS, set the output resolution and frame rate you selected, then configure the video encoder for H.264, rate control CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Set the video bitrate using YouTube’s recommendation for the selected H.264 output, while accounting for available upload capacity.
- Set stereo audio to 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps as the platform starting point. Confirm the correct media or desktop audio source is active, and check that other desktop sounds will not interrupt the playlist.
- Start streaming from OBS and inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health before promoting the broadcast or depending on it. YouTube advises testing in advance with audio and movement similar to the real stream, and monitoring audio and video quality.

Check rights for the exact Gurbani recording
A Gurbani text, composition, or devotional purpose does not by itself establish that a particular commercial recording is free to rebroadcast. Check permission for the actual sound recording and composition, the territories where viewers may access it, live streaming, and any archived replay. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that it has the necessary rights, including music rights involving artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and verify the license with the rights holder; no particular playlist or recording can be presumed cleared.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may cause YouTube to replace the broadcast with a placeholder and warn the streamer; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent an automated interruption. If the broadcast is archived, it may receive a Content ID claim after it ends. Attribution, a “free” label, or buying a copy is not proof of live and archive rights. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot before and during the broadcast
- Dropped frames or an unstable stream: Check sustained upload capacity under real network use and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom above the full stream bitrate. Reduce bitrate or resolution if capacity is marginal; a faster advertised internet plan does not guarantee that bandwidth is available to OBS at stream time.
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Confirm OBS is using the server URL and current stream key for the correct YouTube encoder event. If the key may have been exposed or copied incorrectly, reset or recopy it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Video arrives but the playlist is silent: Verify the intended application or desktop audio source is enabled in OBS, check that its meter moves during playback, and listen to the preview or a test stream. Confirm the playback and OBS audio sample-rate settings are consistent and the audio is not muted.
- Audio distorts: Watch OBS meters for clipping and lower the source level if peaks hit the limit. Listen to the actual preview; meters alone cannot confirm sound quality.
- Live stream is replaced, warned, or interrupted: Treat this as a potential third-party content match. Check the rights for the specific recording and whether the rights holder must allowlist the channel; do not assume a license automatically prevents a live interruption.
- The stream is stable at 720p but not at 1080p: Return to the lower resolution or bitrate and test again. The higher-resolution recommendation is useful only when the encoder and available upload can sustain it.
