Upload capacity varies with location, time, signal, and network load. Start with a conservative setting such as 720p30, measure sustained upload at the streaming location, then run a realistic test to YouTube before relying on the connection.
Start with a conservative OBS configuration
Use YouTube RTMPS and choose an encoder your computer and YouTube workflow support. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS for encoder-based streams. Its supported ingest codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, but which options appear in OBS depends on your operating system and hardware. For SDR, YouTube specifies Rec. 709, 8-bit, progressive scan, and AAC or MP3 audio; for stereo audio it lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Configure the stream destination
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and copy its stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube RTMPS (or connect through YouTube integration), and enter or authorize the stream key.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio.

Set output and audio
- Open Settings → Output → Streaming and select an available encoder.
- Set rate control to CBR, then set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds.
- Use the resolution and bitrate guidance below as YouTube ingest targets, not evidence that a Jio connection will sustain them.
- For SDR, use Rec. 709, 8-bit, progressive video and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo, set 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.
Choose a resolution and bitrate you can sustain
YouTube lists these H.264 figures for common settings. The figures for HEVC or AV1 differ at 720p30; the table includes them only where the cited guide provides a value relevant to this choice.

These are YouTube’s encoder-setting figures, not a guarantee of Jio upload performance. For a cellular link with uncertain stability, begin at 720p30 and near the applicable minimum rather than assuming 1080p60 will work. Increase bitrate or resolution only if repeated tests remain stable. YouTube’s full table is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Measure Jio upload and test the real stream
A 5G icon, strong signal, or fast download result does not establish a stable upload path to YouTube. Measure outbound upload at the place where the streaming computer will operate, and test at different times, including busy hours. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom; OBS describes 75% of total upload speed as a useful starting point when reducing bitrate. Treat both as guidelines, not guarantees: one speed test cannot prove a 24/7 operating margin. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Measure upload at the actual location, using the same connection and device arrangement planned for streaming.
- Choose a bitrate below the upload capacity that is reliably sustained, leaving room for other traffic and variation.
- Run an unlisted test broadcast with the actual scene, movement, audio, resolution, and planned bitrate.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame indicators during the test. Repeat at less favorable times before committing to an unattended schedule.
YouTube transcodes streams into multiple formats for viewers, so you do not need to send a separate low-resolution copy just for mobile viewers. Consistent keyframes help the quality selector transition smoothly; transcoding does not protect your own uplink from instability. See OBS guidance on transcoding.
Fix dropped frames and stream-health errors
- OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube shows poor stream health: Lower the video bitrate and test again. Confirm your upload remains stable under real conditions.
- The connection remains unreliable: OBS recommends trying a different server where available and checking whether a VPN or network-optimization software is interfering.
- You need a fallback during upload fluctuations: OBS dynamic bitrate can reduce output bitrate, but image quality may fall and the setting does not fix the underlying connection problem.
- Download speed looks good but the stream still fails: Recheck outbound upload and network load; download performance alone is not a useful basis for encoder bitrate.

Plan for the archive as well as live uptime
A continuous 24-hour broadcast is not a guaranteed 24-hour YouTube archive. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, while streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If archive reliability matters, schedule shorter sessions under 12 hours, keep a local recording backup, confirm the recording file continues to grow, and verify it after each session. What Jio’s published guidance does—and does not—establish
Jio’s cited help page explains how customers can change video playback quality in apps to manage data usage. It does not specify a Jio 5G plan’s upload speed, hotspot terms, fair-use limit, or sustained 24/7 encoder performance. Do not infer those terms from a download speed, a “true 5G” label, or a third-party speed test. Check the exact conditions for your current plan and test the actual device and location: Jio’s video-streaming data-usage help.
