Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →For a mostly static Marathi devotional stream, start by testing 720p at 30 fps, H.264, and 3 Mbps video bitrate. If fine detail matters and your upload connection can sustain more, test 1080p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps. These are YouTube’s recommended live-ingest bitrates for those H.264 formats; they are not special settings for Marathi content or 24/7 broadcasts. Add audio bandwidth, leave upload headroom, and verify the complete stream in YouTube Live Control Room before relying on it unattended.
What bitrate should I use for a 24/7 YouTube live stream?
Use YouTube’s live ingest recommendations for your resolution, frame rate, and codec—not the separate bitrate table for uploading prerecorded videos. For a low-motion devotional visual, 720p30 H.264 at 3 Mbps is a practical starting point. Choose 1080p30 H.264 at 5 Mbps if the image has meaningful fine detail and the connection has reliable capacity.
The choice of 720p for a mostly static picture is a production judgment, not a YouTube rule. A higher resolution may preserve more detail, but it also needs more stable upload bandwidth. Thirty frames per second is usually the more relevant starting comparison for a fixed image or graphic; consider 60 fps only if the picture includes fast movement.
YouTube live ingest bitrate recommendations
The figures below are YouTube Help’s current recommended and minimum ingest settings, accessed 2026-10-03. They are in Mbps and depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate.

| Resolution and frame rate | AV1 / H.265 minimum | AV1 / H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 4 | 12 | 6 | 17 |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 4 | 10 | 5 | 14 |
| 720p at 60 fps | 2 | 6 | 3 | 8 |
| 720p at 30 fps | 2 | 6 | 3 | 8 |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.3 | 3 | 0.4 | 4 |
| 360p at 30 fps | 0.3 | 3 | 0.4 | 4 |
The minimum values are the bottom of YouTube’s listed range, not a reliability target. For example, H.264 at 720p30 has a listed minimum of 2 Mbps and a recommendation of 3 Mbps. Choosing a minimum leaves less margin for variability, so test the actual stream before scheduling it continuously. YouTube may update its guidance; see Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Encoder settings to pair with your bitrate
A straightforward baseline for the recommended 720p30 test is H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval, with AAC stereo audio. YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS protocols; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs; up to 60 fps; CBR; and a two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. Make sure your encoder and workflow support the codec you choose.

- Video bitrate: 3 Mbps for the 720p30 H.264 starting test, or 5 Mbps for a 1080p30 H.264 test where detail and connection capacity justify it.
- Rate control: CBR, as recommended by YouTube for live encoding.
- Keyframes: every two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: RTMPS is YouTube’s recommendation. It encrypts the connection into and through Google’s servers.
- Audio: YouTube recommends AAC or MP3. For stereo, use 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. For 5.1 audio, its recommendation is 48 kHz and 384 kbps.
- SDR color: Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth are YouTube’s recommendations.
Keep audio bitrate separate from video bitrate when estimating bandwidth. A 3 Mbps video stream with 128 kbps stereo audio needs more than 3 Mbps of upload capacity; network overhead and encoder behavior add variation. YouTube’s full settings guidance is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
How much upload speed do you need?
Measure outbound upload speed, not download speed. YouTube advises testing upload capacity and leaving 20% bandwidth headroom. That margin helps accommodate variation rather than running the connection at its limit. If you send both a primary and backup feed, count the bandwidth for both streams before applying the headroom.

- Run an upload speed test on the connection and equipment that will carry the stream.
- Choose a resolution, frame rate, and codec whose bitrate the measured upload can sustain, including audio and protocol overhead.
- Leave at least YouTube’s recommended 20% capacity margin. If using a backup feed, include its bitrate as well.
- Prefer a stable wired connection where practical, then monitor the live stream for encoder and connectivity problems.
A higher download result does not compensate for insufficient upload capacity. YouTube warns that “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Its advice is in Streaming tips.
Test a representative stream before leaving it unattended
Test the whole setup with the same kind of audio and visual movement you plan to broadcast. A static image alone may not reveal problems that appear when the actual video or audio plays. YouTube’s encoder guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”

- Configure the encoder for the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, audio, protocol, and keyframe interval.
- Start a representative test and check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Look for encoder warnings, dropped frames, or connection problems, and confirm the audio and picture behave as expected.
- Repeat the test after changing resolution, frame rate, codec, network, or backup-feed configuration.
YouTube automatically detects encoder settings and transcodes a live stream into multiple output formats. Your selected bitrate is the incoming encoder bitrate; it does not guarantee that every viewer receives playback at that exact bitrate. For setup and stream-key details, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: it lets the encoder send the feed, so do not share it publicly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common problems and fixes
- Stream health shows connection instability: the upload link may not sustain the chosen bitrate. Recheck outbound capacity, restore the 20% headroom, and test a lower resolution or bitrate.
- Encoder warnings or dropped frames: verify the selected codec and output settings are supported by the encoder, and repeat a representative test after adjusting the load or bitrate.
- Picture looks less detailed than expected: confirm the encoder is sending the intended resolution and frame rate, then check the incoming stream in Live Control Room. YouTube transcodes the feed, so the ingest bitrate is not a promise of identical playback quality for every viewer.
- Stream stops during a network interruption: check the connection and encoder status, then restore the stream through the encoder workflow. YouTube notes that connectivity disruptions can break a stream; monitoring is important for continuous operation.
- Audio bitrate appears to exceed the video target: calculate audio separately and include it, plus overhead, in your upload estimate. The video bitrate alone is not the total network requirement.
Copyright and continuous devotional broadcasts
Bitrate settings do not grant permission to use music, recordings, images, or other material in a stream. Before broadcasting devotional songs, performances, or video, confirm you have the rights needed for live use and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules. A stream running continuously does not remove those obligations. Use the copyright safety checklist as a practical preflight, alongside YouTube’s current policies.
