Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor most real estate tour playlists, OBS is the easier DIY choice: add the videos to a VLC Video source, keep shuffle off, and enable playlist looping. Choose FFmpeg if you are comfortable building and supervising a command-line workflow. Either way, the computer and connection running the encoder must stay available; a loop setting alone does not make a broadcast interruption-proof. If you want the playlist to run without a home computer, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative that plays uploaded videos to YouTube.
Which should you choose: OBS or FFmpeg?
| What matters | OBS Studio | FFmpeg |
|---|---|---|
| Making an ordered playlist | VLC Video source offers a visual file list, playlist looping, and shuffle controls. VLC must be installed. | -stream_loop -1 loops an input infinitely, but does not by itself create a complete multi-file playlist workflow. |
| Operating the stream | Preview, scenes, and source controls make it easier to inspect and adjust the output visually. | A compact command-line process suits scripted workflows; you must provide your own monitoring and process supervision. |
| Picture changes | Useful for adding scenes, overlays, titles, or manual controls around the playlist. | Processing and automation are expressed through command options and the surrounding pipeline. |
| Good fit | A creator who prefers a visual setup and can leave a computer running. | A creator comfortable assembling and maintaining a command-line pipeline on an always-on host. |
These are workflow differences, not benchmark results. Neither application guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast: the host, network, media files, encoder process, and YouTube ingest all need to work.
What to prepare before going live
- Your tour files: Put the videos somewhere the streaming computer can keep accessing them. If a file is moved, renamed, or on a disconnected drive, the playlist may not play as intended.
- Your playlist order: Decide the order in which properties should appear. For an ordered tour, disable shuffle and check the list before starting.
- YouTube stream details: In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the RTMPS ingestion URL and stream key for the stream. RTMPS carries RTMP over TLS/SSL; YouTube’s guide specifies port 443. Keep the stream key private.
- Output settings: Match resolution, frame rate, codecs, audio, and bitrate to YouTube’s current encoder requirements and the source videos. Avoid guessing a bitrate or assuming every video in the playlist has matching properties. YouTube’s stream-health feedback can identify configuration issues such as unsupported audio or bitrate and frame-rate mismatches.
- Rights and channel policy: Use footage and music you have rights to broadcast, and check YouTube’s current copyright and reused-content policies. A property tour being publicly viewable does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. A technical loop does not make content eligible under platform policies.
- A recovery plan: Decide who or what will respond if the computer shuts down, the connection drops, a file fails, or YouTube reports an ingest problem. Restarting an encoder and restoring a live stream may require operator action or separate process supervision.
Set up an ordered, looping playlist in OBS
- Install OBS and VLC. VLC is required for OBS’s VLC Video source. Match the VLC architecture to OBS; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source, then create the ordered list using the tour video files you want to play.
- Check the playlist behavior. Leave shuffle disabled if property order matters, and make sure Loop Playlist is enabled. The OBS documentation says this option restarts the source when it has run out of media files; loop behavior for a single-file Media Source is a separate per-file setting.
- Set the YouTube destination. Configure the service for YouTube/RTMPS, or enter the RTMPS URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Do not share or publish the key.
- Configure and inspect the output. Set output video and audio to values accepted by YouTube for the stream, then preview the playlist. Check that the tour is framed correctly, the audio is present if needed, and clips advance in the intended order.
- Test before the public broadcast. Use a private or unlisted test, or a scheduled stream as appropriate. Check YouTube’s stream-health feedback and fix any reported configuration issue before relying on the setup.
- Keep the system available. Prevent the host from sleeping or shutting down, keep the media paths accessible, and monitor the network and OBS. Arrange an operator response or restart method for failures; the playlist loop does not restart a crashed encoder.
Build an FFmpeg workflow
- Choose how to present the files. Prepare an input arrangement for the actual videos and intended sequence. FFmpeg’s
-stream_loop -1option loops an input infinitely; it does not alone assemble multiple files into a seamless, ordered playlist. - Place input options correctly.
-stream_loopis an input option, so place it before the relevant input. FFmpeg documents-reas reading at native frame rate and notes its usefulness when output timing matters, such as live streaming. Whether and how to use it depends on the input and pipeline. - Match the output to YouTube. Confirm the chosen video and audio codecs, frame rate, resolution, bitrate, and output format against YouTube’s current encoder requirements and the stream-health feedback. A command copied without adapting its input, output, codecs, and authentication may fail or produce the wrong result.
- Send the stream to YouTube. Use the RTMPS ingestion address and stream name/key supplied in Live Control Room. YouTube specifies port 443 for RTMPS. Protect the key as a credential.
- Supervise the process. Run a test and watch the connection and YouTube health status. If the workflow is meant to run unattended, arrange process supervision, logging, and a restart or operator-response plan for encoder and network failures.
There is no single FFmpeg command here because the correct playlist construction and encoding options depend on the files and the machine. The documented infinite-input-loop option is not, by itself, a tested multi-file playlist recipe.
What nonstop operation depends on
With either DIY approach, “nonstop” depends on more than whether looping is enabled. The host needs power and a working connection; the video files need to remain available; the encoder must keep running; and YouTube must continue receiving a healthy stream. A process supervisor can address some software restarts, but it cannot make a failed connection or unavailable media file disappear. Decide whether you can monitor the setup and intervene when something breaks before choosing a computer-based workflow for a long unattended broadcast.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The OBS VLC Video source is unavailable | VLC installation or architecture mismatch | Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS; OBS notes the 64-bit-to-64-bit requirement. |
| The playlist stops after the final tour | Playlist loop setting | Check that Loop Playlist is enabled. For a Media Source playing one file, check that source’s individual loop setting instead. |
| Properties play in the wrong order | Shuffle or file-list order | Disable shuffle and inspect the VLC Video source’s list order. |
| YouTube reports a stream configuration issue | Codec, audio, bitrate, or frame-rate mismatch | Use YouTube’s stream-health feedback to identify the issue, then compare the encoder configuration with YouTube’s current requirements. |
| The stream disconnects or does not resume | Host, network, encoder process, or ingest | Check the computer’s power and connection, confirm the encoder is running, review YouTube health feedback, and follow the recovery plan. A loop option does not restart a failed process. |
| A clip is missing or fails to play | Media path or source file | Confirm the file remains accessible at the configured path and test it in the playlist before going live. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube playlist without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is an alternative to operating OBS or FFmpeg on your own host. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
