Measure upload performance at the place and time you will stream, start conservatively, then test a representative stream and check both OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health. If your connection cannot sustain the bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate, lower one or both and test again.
Why OBS drops frames on mobile broadband
OBS defines dropped frames as a connection to the remote server that is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. Its troubleshooting guide says the software itself is extremely unlikely to be the cause. On mobile broadband, capacity and stability can vary with location, time, signal conditions, congestion and the route to YouTube’s ingest server. An advertised plan speed—or one speed test—does not prove that the connection can sustain a live stream.
OBS’s general starting heuristic is to set video bitrate to 75% of total upload speed. That is a starting point, not an India-specific benchmark or a guarantee. Measure under the conditions in which you plan to broadcast, and verify the actual stream.
Choose a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain
YouTube publishes minimum and recommended encoder bitrates by codec, resolution and frame rate. The figures below are YouTube’s published settings, not measurements of Indian mobile broadband capacity. YouTube’s table can change; consult its current live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions before a broadcast.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| YouTube input | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended | AV1 or H.265 minimum | AV1 or H.265 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps | 0.3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
For example, YouTube lists H.264 1080p30 at 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; H.264 720p30 at 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended; and H.264 480p30 at 0.4 Mbps minimum and 4 Mbps recommended. A minimum is not a promise of stable delivery. If your measured upload does not leave enough headroom for the recommended rate, step down resolution or frame rate rather than forcing a higher-quality setting. Use AV1 or H.265 figures only if your encoder and streaming workflow support that codec.
Set up OBS and test before going live
- Measure at your streaming location. Run an upload speed test at the planned time; repeat it if conditions vary. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing the stream before going live. Treat the results as an estimate, not proof of a stable route to YouTube.
- Choose a target format. Decide on resolution, frame rate and an encoder codec your setup supports. Compare that combination with YouTube’s published minimum and recommended rates above.
- Set a conservative video bitrate. Apply OBS’s 75%-of-total-upload-speed heuristic as a starting point, then ensure the outgoing stream can be sustained. If the result cannot meet the platform’s target with headroom, choose a lower resolution or frame rate and retest.
- Use YouTube-compatible output settings. YouTube recommends CBR (constant bitrate) and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube also recommends RTMPS. Set these in the encoder or output settings used by your OBS streaming workflow.
- Run a representative private or unlisted test. Include motion and audio similar to the real broadcast. While streaming, watch OBS’s network dropped-frame counter and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. A static test image may not reveal how your real content behaves.
- Adjust one step at a time. If network drops rise, lower video bitrate first, then test again. If needed, reduce resolution or frame rate to match a lower published bitrate range. Keep a note of the settings and conditions that worked at that location and time.
Fix OBS network drops systematically
If OBS’s dropped-frame counter increases during the test, work through these checks. They target the connection between your streaming setup and YouTube, not the quality of the video file itself.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Lower the bitrate and retest. The connection may not sustain the configured rate. Dynamic bitrate can lower bitrate when the connection falters, but OBS cautions that it does not fix the underlying cause and may reduce image quality.
- Try another ingest server if OBS offers one. A different server may provide a better route; verify the result with another representative test.
- Check the network binding. In OBS’s network settings, make sure “Bind to IP” is set to “Default.” OBS also suggests testing IPv4-only and reverting if it changes nothing.
- Review Windows network options if applicable. OBS lists network optimizations and TCP pacing among the settings to test. Change one setting at a time and undo changes that do not help.
- Check the path between computer and internet. Review VPNs, firewall or security software, network-prioritization or optimization utilities, network drivers, router or modem, and cables. If the computer uses Wi-Fi to reach a router, test a wired Ethernet connection; OBS warns Wi-Fi may be unstable. Ethernet will not repair a weak cellular uplink, mobile-network congestion or a poor carrier route.
- Escalate if the connection remains unstable. If OBS’s network checks do not resolve the issue, OBS recommends contacting your ISP. For a mobile connection, provide the time and location of the tests and explain that the problem is sustained upload to a live-stream ingest server.
Tell creator-side drops apart from viewer buffering
Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter first. Rising network drops indicate a problem with the stream connection. Viewer buffering is different: OBS notes that viewers use different locations, devices and internet connections, so some may buffer even when the creator has no dropped frames. A lower bitrate or quality can help reach more viewers. YouTube says it transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, but that does not remove every viewer-side network limitation.
