Ewan McGregor still wants to play Obi-Wan Kenobi and has discussed possible story ideas, including Obi-Wan trying to contact Yoda. Those comments are encouraging, but they do not amount to a Lucasfilm or Disney approval for a second season. No production start, release date or returning cast list has been announced in the reporting available through September 30, 2026.
What Ewan McGregor actually said
Speaking at the Variety Lounge during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, McGregor said he had casually raised ideas with Lucasfilm executive Dave Filoni. One idea involved Obi-Wan attempting to reach Yoda after the two Jedi had been separated. Variety quoted McGregor saying, “It was very casual, but I said there’s got to be something.”
McGregor also said he would be happy to return in either a film or another series. In comments reported by GamesRadar+ from E! News, he said, “I’m ready whenever they are,” adding, “They just seem to not be ready, but I’m up for it.”
He has identified the period after the 2022 finale and before Alec Guinness plays Obi-Wan in Star Wars: A New Hope as a possible area for more stories. SciFiNow reported McGregor describing that gap as “10 years of something happening to Obi-Wan.” That is his description of potential story territory, not evidence that a ten-year project is being developed.

Where the existing series fits
Lucasfilm describes Obi-Wan Kenobi as a six-part limited series released in 2022. Disney’s press materials place it ten years after Revenge of the Sith, before A New Hope, and state that it streams exclusively on Disney+.
That official framing matters: the released program was commissioned as a limited series. A future continuation would therefore require a new decision by Lucasfilm and Disney rather than automatically following from McGregor’s comments.
What a possible return could explore
Obi-Wan and Yoda after their separation
McGregor’s Yoda idea points to a story about two surviving Jedi maintaining contact, seeking guidance or confronting the limits of communication while hiding from the Empire. He presented it as a possibility he floated to Filoni, not as an approved plot.
The years before A New Hope
McGregor sees room for Obi-Wan’s life between the end of the series and Guinness’s older portrayal in 1977. Any project in that period would still need to fit the established events and the character’s eventual appearance on Tatooine.
A film or another limited series
McGregor has not restricted the idea to television. His comments leave open either a feature film or a new series, with the format dependent on a separate studio decision.

How to read the update
- Positive signal: the lead actor remains enthusiastic and is publicly volunteering ideas.
- Creative signal: he has identified Yoda and the intervening years as story possibilities.
- Business status: no approval, schedule, release date or cast announcement has been reported.
The practical answer to “Is Obi-Wan Kenobi getting a season 2?” is therefore “not confirmed.” McGregor’s remarks keep the possibility alive, but only an official Lucasfilm or Disney announcement would change the project’s status.
What fans can watch now
The completed six-part 2022 series remains available on Disney+, according to Lucasfilm and Disney’s official materials. It is the only released television season in this story; a second season has not been announced in the cited coverage.
