A childhood shaped by tragedy and intense publicity
Sydney and Justin were 8 and 5, respectively, when Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed on June 12, 1994. Their parents had married in 1985, had two children and divorced in 1992.
The murders led to one of the most closely watched criminal trials in American history. O.J. Simpson was acquitted in 1995 in the criminal case. Two years later, a separate California civil jury found him liable for the deaths and awarded the victims’ families $33.5 million. Those were different proceedings: the criminal acquittal was not a finding that the killings did not happen, and the civil judgment was not a criminal conviction.

For Sydney and Justin, the legal proceedings unfolded while they were still very young. Their father died in Las Vegas on April 10, 2024, at age 76, after prostate cancer.
How the Brown family and neighbors protected them
According to Brobeck, the children stayed with their maternal grandparents, Lou and Judy Brown, in Dana Point, Orange County, during the criminal proceedings. Brobeck and his wife, Gaye, were friends and neighbors of Nicole’s family, and he said Sydney and Justin also spent time with the Brobeck family almost every day.
The goal was to give them ordinary routines while keeping them out of the tabloid spotlight. Brobeck recalled sleepovers, time in his family’s game room and baking cookies with local relatives. The surrounding community, he said, helped create a protective circle around the children at a time when cameras and reporters were focused on their family.
That detail is central to Brobeck’s account. His comments do not suggest that the children escaped the effects of the tragedy; rather, they indicate that adults around them tried to make childhood as secure and private as possible.
What Brobeck said about their adult lives
Brobeck told PEOPLE that Sydney and Justin later attended “good, great colleges,” built families and were doing well. He specifically identified Justin’s wife as Alycia Browne and said they have a child named Lana.
The phrase “good life” is Brobeck’s personal characterization. It is not a joint statement from Sydney and Justin, and publicly available information about Sydney’s current work, residence and family life remains limited. Claims about her private circumstances should therefore be treated cautiously unless she or a reliable source confirms them.
Justin does have a current public professional role. Norwich University announced his hiring as head coach of its women’s ice-hockey program in April 2025. The university’s staff listing says he enters his second season in 2026–27. Older accounts describing him only as a real-estate professional or private businessman do not reflect that current position.

The available evidence supports a narrower conclusion: people close to Nicole and the Brown family worked to give her children stability, and Brobeck believes that support helped them establish fulfilling adult lives.

The story also sits within a continuing legal and historical aftermath. The civil judgment against Simpson remained unresolved for years, and in November 2025 his estate accepted a creditor claim of approximately $58 million from Ron Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman. That later estate development is separate from Brobeck’s description of Sydney and Justin’s upbringing.

Documentaries about the Simpson case often concentrate on courtroom strategy, celebrity, evidence and media spectacle. Brobeck’s account shifts attention to two children who were largely subjects of public discussion rather than public participants.
His description of sleepovers, cookies and a neighborhood game room is less dramatic than the trial footage, but it explains how a support network can matter after a family tragedy.
