XWord Info identifies the Thursday, December 25, 2025 puzzle as No. 27,806, by Sam Ezersky and edited by Will Shortz. The two listed clue-answer examples are:
- “Dashing through the ___ …” — SNOW
- “In a ___ open sleigh …” — ONEHORSE
Those entries fit the holiday-season theme, but they are examples, not a complete grid solution. For the full puzzle, open the date in the official NYT archive and use its answer controls or solution options.
Why the year matters
December 25, 2024 and December 25, 2025 are separate editions: a date-only search can point to the wrong grid. JustCrossword’s archive lists a Wednesday, December 25, 2024 puzzle, while XWord Info identifies the Thursday, December 25, 2025 edition. At the article’s research date, October 4, 2026, 2025 was the latest fully elapsed December 25 edition verified here.

How to open the NYT puzzle for the right year
- In the NYT Games app: Choose Archives, select The Crossword (not The Mini), then choose the month, year, and puzzle date.
- On the NYT website: Open Crossword Archives, choose Daily, select the month and year, then open December 25.
NYT says Games and All Access subscribers can access archived puzzles; people without those subscriptions have limited archive access. NYT describes its archive as containing over 10,000 crosswords, with daily puzzles back to 1993 and Minis back to 2014. Eligibility depends on the subscription arrangement described on the NYT Games subscription page.
Check answers, reveal entries, or print the solution
NYT Help documents controls to check or reveal a square, an answer, or the full puzzle. These options let you choose whether to verify a troublesome entry or see more of the grid. On a computer, NYT also supports printing puzzles, with a solution option that includes answers. Printing is not available in the Games apps or on the mobile website. The official archive is the direct route to the dated puzzle and its built-in solving, checking, and reveal features, subject to access limits. A separate answer-reference page may be convenient, but verify that it names the same year and date; a December 25 label alone does not establish that it covers the edition you want.
