Today’s Connections word bank
Try sorting these 16 words into four groups of four before opening the hints:
SQUAT, SHEPHERD, PIT, FALL, LUNGE, LEAD, SKINK, SOLID, HUSKY, CASK, DIRECT, COLONY, GUIDE, THINK, MASQUE, HEARTH.
Hints for the four groups
- Yellow: Well-built, perhaps like a bouncer.
- Green: Ways to direct or guide someone.
- Blue: These are second words in Edgar Allan Poe story titles that begin with “The.”
- Purple: Each word hides a body organ when you remove one added letter.
One answer from each group
If you need another nudge without seeing the full solution, one word from each group is: SOLID, LEAD, PIT, and SKINK.

The Poe titles
The blue words complete the titles The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Pit and the Pendulum.
The organ-plus-a-letter group
Remove one letter from each purple answer to get COLON, HEART, LUNG, and SKIN, respectively.

How Connections works
Connections gives players 16 words, phrases, symbols, or numbers to sort into four groups of four. Forbes contributor Kris Holt describes the challenge this way: “There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings.” The game allows three incorrect guesses before a fourth ends the game, according to Holt’s gameplay guide. The groups are commonly presented in a yellow-to-purple color sequence, but category styles should not be treated as fixed rules or as a guaranteed difficulty ranking for every player.
