Spoiler warning: This is an archived guide to NYT Connections game #900, published Thursday, November 27, 2025. Start with the category hints below if you want a nudge; the category names and complete solution follow.

Progressive hints for game #900

These are spoiler-light prompts reported by TechRadar and Parade, not official NYT hints.

Color Hint
Yellow Everything all at one; “Look out!”
Green As seen on a PC; “Store things here.”
Blue Carpentry implements; “In the shop.”
Purple Sounds like something we play daily; “Some meta rhyming.”

Connections asks you to sort sixteen terms into four groups of four. TechRadar describes four difficulty colors and a limit of four mistakes. Its November 26, 2025 guide also describes the game as playable free through NYT Games on desktop or mobile; access may vary by geography.

  • Yellow: INUNDATION
  • Green: MAIN FOLDERS IN A COMPUTER
  • Blue: WOODWORKING TOOLS
  • Purple: RHYMES FOR NEW YORK TIMES GAMES

All sixteen answers

Color Category Words
Yellow INUNDATION AVALANCHE, OUTPOURING, TIDAL WAVE, TORRENT
Green MAIN FOLDERS IN A COMPUTER DESKTOP, DOCUMENTS, DOWNLOADS, MUSIC
Blue WOODWORKING TOOLS DRILLS, FILES, ROUTERS, SAWS
Purple RHYMES FOR NEW YORK TIMES GAMES CONFECTIONS, GRANDS, HURDLE, SWELLING SEA

Why the purple group works—and where the overlaps mislead

The purple answers are sound-alike phrases for other NYT Games titles: CONFECTIONS evokes Connections, GRANDS evokes Strands, HURDLE evokes Wordle, and SWELLING SEA evokes Spelling Bee. It is a meta category: the words point to game names by sound rather than sharing a literal subject.

Several entries tempt you toward a different grouping. FILES can look like a computer-folder term, and ROUTERS can suggest computer networking, but both belong with the woodworking tools. TORRENT and SWELLING SEA can suggest water, yet TORRENT is in the inundation group while SWELLING SEA belongs with the rhymes. Checking whether a candidate set accounts for four words cleanly can help expose those cross-category associations.

What the benchmark statistic does—and does not—say

A 2024 arXiv paper by Angel Yahir Loredo Lopez, Tyler McDonald, and Ali Emami reports 40.25% for its best-performing model in the Full Hints condition and 60.67% for human participants on the paper’s tested Connections benchmark: NYT-Connections: A Deceptively Simple Text Classification Task that Stumps System-1 Thinkers. Those figures describe that benchmark, not the solve rate or difficulty of game #900.
