How NYT Connections works

Connections presents 16 words. The goal is to sort them into four groups of four that share a connection. Groups are color-coded by difficulty: yellow is easiest and purple is trickiest. The New York Times notes that words can seem to fit more than one category, even though each puzzle has one solution. Read the official Connections instructions for the game’s rules.

Where to play or replay the puzzle

The daily game is free on the NYT Games site and its listed apps, and a new puzzle becomes available at midnight in the player’s timezone. To replay an older puzzle such as #881, the Connections archive requires an All Access or Games subscription. The archive reaches back to June 12, 2023; archive play can count toward some statistics but does not affect streaks.
