Spoilers: Connections #790 answers
Below are the complete groups and explanations.
Yellow: RESULT
FRUIT · PRODUCT · RETURN · YIELD
Each word can refer to an outcome or something produced. Fruit can mean the result or product of an action, while a product is something produced. A return can be an outcome or gain, and a yield can mean the amount produced or generated.
Green: KINDS OF JOKES
DAD · INSIDE · KNOCK-KNOCK · PRACTICAL
Pair each word with “joke”: dad joke, inside joke, knock-knock joke, and practical joke.
Rank #3
This is one of the puzzle’s traps. Inside, product, return, and yield can initially encourage other associations, but the phrase “___ joke” makes the green group precise.
Blue: MOVIES FEATURING SUPERNATURAL ROMANCE
CASPER · GHOST · LET ME IN · TWILIGHT
These are movie titles connected with supernatural beings or supernatural romance. Casper centers on a friendly ghost; Ghost is the romantic fantasy film; Let Me In is associated with vampires; and Twilight is the title of the well-known supernatural-romance film and franchise.

Purple: CORN-Y THINGS
MAZE · MUFFIN · SILK · SYRUP
Put corn before every word:
- corn maze
- corn muffin
- corn silk
- corn syrup
The final category is a word-combination pun rather than a broad subject category, which makes it the puzzle’s most difficult group.
How to solve this puzzle
- Start with the joke phrases. DAD, INSIDE, KNOCK-KNOCK, and PRACTICAL all form familiar expressions when followed by “joke.”
- Look for the movie titles. CASPER, GHOST, LET ME IN, and TWILIGHT point to supernatural films and leave eight words.
- Test the outcome meanings. FRUIT, PRODUCT, RETURN, and YIELD can all describe a result, gain, or amount produced.
- Use the remaining four words for the phrase puzzle. MAZE, MUFFIN, SILK, and SYRUP all follow “corn.”
The important distinction is between a broad association and the intended connection. For example, the yellow words do not all look alike, but they share the result or production meaning. The purple words become clear only after testing the same word in front of each one.
