Best direct option: stream NFL Network with NFL+
For viewers who wanted a direct streaming option rather than a full cable or live-TV replacement, an NFL+ subscription was the closest fit. NFL’s service information identifies NFL+ as including NFL Network, and the league’s “How to Watch” guidance lists NFL+ as a way to stream the network.
NFL+ was not the same thing as receiving every NFL game on every device. NFL+ access is subject to the service’s device and game-category restrictions. In particular, NFL’s regular-season live-game rules distinguish between mobile access and viewing on supported connected devices. Before subscribing, check the current NFL+ plan description and supported-device list for the exact screen you intend to use.
What NFL+ was useful for
- Accessing NFL Network without a traditional pay-TV login.
- Watching through supported phones and tablets where the applicable NFL+ feature allowed live access.
- Using supported connected-TV and streaming-device environments for NFL Network, subject to the subscription and device rules in effect at the time.
The safest expectation is not “NFL+ shows every NFL game everywhere.” Instead, treat it as a way to access the league’s included content and NFL Network under the plan’s current rules.
Live-TV streaming services that carried NFL Network
A second route was a live-TV streaming service with NFL Network in the selected package. This approach made sense for viewers who wanted a broader replacement for cable, but it required checking the actual channel lineup before signing up. Sling’s Blue plan lists NFL Network among its channels and is offered nationwide in the United States with an internet connection. It was a practical example of a live-TV package for cord-cutters who wanted Sling Blue with NFL Network.
Do not assume that every Sling plan includes the channel, or that a lineup viewed today is identical to the lineup available for a historical game. Confirm NFL Network in the current Sling Blue channel list and review any local-channel or regional limitations before paying.
YouTube TV
YouTube TV also documents NFL Network access, but the applicable plan matters. YouTube TV’s help information says that some subscribers may need the main plan or a qualifying Sports Plan for NFL Network access.
That makes a YouTube TV plan with NFL Network a possible alternative, not a universal guarantee. Open the current plan comparison, search specifically for “NFL Network,” and confirm that the channel is included in the plan attached to your account.

Smart TVs and streaming players
NFL’s device documentation has identified support across device families including Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, Roku, Fire TV, Xbox, Vizio, and LG devices. Support can change, and the presence of an NFL app does not by itself provide access to the games.

Before subscribing, check NFL’s current supported-device list. If you need a simple way to put the service on an older television, a Roku streaming stick may be useful, but the device is only the delivery hardware: you still need an eligible NFL+ subscription or authenticated provider account that includes NFL Network.
Authenticated NFL Network viewing
Viewers with a participating cable, satellite, or live-TV provider could generally use the NFL Network app or supported NFL streaming environment by selecting the provider and signing in. The provider had to include NFL Network in the customer’s package.
Having access to the NFL app, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or another supported platform did not bypass the subscription requirement. Device support and network access are separate questions.
Was NFL Sunday Ticket required?
No. NFL Sunday Ticket was not the relevant package for this Saturday tripleheader. Sunday Ticket is designed primarily for out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, while the December 28, 2024 games were scheduled for NFL Network.
Buying Sunday Ticket solely to watch these three NFL Network games would therefore have been the wrong starting point. The appropriate checks were:
- Whether NFL Network was included with the viewer’s existing TV provider.
- Whether an NFL+ plan provided the desired NFL Network access on the intended device.
- Whether a live-TV streaming package included NFL Network.
