July 2025’s headline arrival on the U.S. service was Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s horror film starring Michael B. Jordan. The month also brought three A24 films, HBO’s two-part Billy Joel: And So It Goes, new series and a broad slate of Discovery, food, home and library programming. This is a historical release calendar: the service was branded Max in July 2025, though “HBO Max” remains a familiar name for the search.
The dates below reflect titles announced for the U.S. service; availability may differ elsewhere and can change over time. “New” includes catalog additions and new season segments, not only titles first released in 2025.

July’s biggest HBO Max releases
- Best movie: Sinners (July 4). Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror film follows twin brothers, both played by Michael B. Jordan, in 1930s Mississippi. It was the month’s most prominent movie arrival.
- For A24 fans: On Becoming a Guinea Fowl arrived July 4, Opus on July 11 and Death of a Unicorn on July 25. These are film additions, not Max Originals.
- Best documentary: Billy Joel: And So It Goes. The HBO documentary was released in two parts: Part 1 on July 18 and Part 2 a week later, on July 25.
- New unscripted series: Back to the Frontier (July 10). The first season was billed as a Max Original associated with Magnolia Network.
- Other notable series: HBO Original Rage (Furia) arrived July 11; children’s series Isadora Moon had a Season 1B release July 10; and Discovery’s Shark Week 2025 began July 20.
- For documentary viewers: July 2 brought HBO Original Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print. The July 1 catalog also included Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am and Cunningham.

What “HBO Max” meant in July 2025
The service’s branding in July 2025 was Max; HBO Max is retained here because it remains a common search term. The calendar is for the United States, not a guarantee of release dates in other countries. It combines HBO Originals and Max Originals with licensed films, catalog titles and shows from networks including Discovery, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, CNN and Cartoon Network. A listed date is the announced U.S. addition date, not a promise that a title would remain available for the whole month or indefinitely.
