Untamed takes place in Yosemite National Park, but its first season was filmed in British Columbia. Mount Seymour stood in for El Capitan in key mountain scenes, while the opening sequence also used a Vancouver studio build, visual effects and close-up filming on BC rock.
Was Netflix’s Untamed filmed in Yosemite?
No. Yosemite is the story’s setting, not the production’s principal filming location. Netflix describes the mystery as unfolding in Yosemite National Park, while director Thomas Bezucha and regional film officials identify British Columbia as part of the season-one shoot. Netflix’s series page describes the fictional setting; it does not establish where cameras filmed.
Bezucha’s account of the opening makes the distinction clear: the production combined a constructed set in Vancouver, CGI, close-up work on rock in British Columbia and location shooting. The result represents Yosemite and its imposing cliffs without requiring the production to film in the park.
Where was Untamed season 1 filmed?
The clearest specifically identified location is Mount Seymour, near Vancouver. Bezucha said it supplied the summit and the mountain face for scenes in which Eric Bana’s character looks down toward the body and rappels to examine it. Those scenes represent El Capitan in the story.

The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission also confirmed that the miniseries was partially filmed in its region, as well as elsewhere in British Columbia. Its update establishes a wider BC production footprint, but does not identify which scenes were shot at particular sites there.
Real filming locations reported for the show
Entertainment location guides name additional sites and match them to fictional settings. The detailed scene mappings below come from ComingSoon and Time Out, rather than from Bezucha’s interview or the regional film commission; they should be read as reported location-guide identifications, not as equally direct production confirmation.

| Yan-O-Pah Hotel | Nita Lake Lodge | Reported by ComingSoon and Time Out. |
| Climber close-ups | Rock in British Columbia; exact site not named | Bezucha said the close-up detail work was filmed on BC rock but did not specify where. |
| Opening cliff-wall sequence | Vancouver studio parking lot, with CGI and BC rock close-ups | Bezucha described construction of a 60-foot wall section at a Vancouver studio and the use of CGI; this was a composite sequence, not a single outdoor location. |
How the opening sequence was made
Bezucha, who directed episodes one and two, described building a 60-foot section of wall in a Vancouver studio parking lot. The crew storyboarded and mapped the sequence, used two stunt performers, added CGI and filmed close-up climber details on rock in British Columbia. His account explains why the scene can look like a continuous Yosemite cliff even though it was assembled from several production elements.
For the mountain exterior work, he specifically named Mount Seymour as the place used for the summit and for the point where Bana’s character rappels down to inspect the body. That is the strongest directly described real-world match for a major fictional location in season one.

Season 1 locations are separate from season 2
Netflix Tudum has reported that season 2 is in production in Hawaii. That is a separate production update and does not change where season one was filmed; future filming details may change as production continues.
