Netflix’s redesigned TV interface is no longer simply “coming”: announced on May 7, 2025, it is now available on most TVs and TV streaming devices. Whether it appears on your screen depends on your device and app support. Look for a top menu with TV Shows, Movies, Games, My Netflix, and Profiles to see if you have it.
What changed in Netflix’s TV interface?
The redesign changes how viewers navigate and evaluate titles, not just how the artwork looks. Netflix moved key destinations into a menu at the top of the TV homepage, replacing the less prominent side navigation. The homepage also gives featured titles more space and surfaces information such as previews, synopses, runtime, ratings, and contextual callouts—so you can learn more before opening a title.
Netflix says recommendations can respond to actions such as watching a trailer, adding a title to My List, or giving it a thumbs-up. That is the company’s design goal, not a guarantee that every profile will receive better recommendations. Netflix has described the broader interface as a way to accommodate entertainment including shows, films, live events, and games. Its May 2025 announcement called it a major update to the TV experience.

Categories and New & Popular have left the menu, but their underlying discovery options have not simply vanished; their routes have changed. Netflix’s TV layout help page lists the current navigation and where to find these features.

Is the new layout on your TV?
Netflix says the experience is available on most TVs and TV streaming devices, not every device that can run Netflix. The company announced the redesign on May 7, 2025, with a rollout over the following weeks and months. Its current guidance still allows for exceptions: older or technically limited devices may retain the previous layout.
If the TV homepage has the five top-level destinations—TV Shows, Movies, Games, My Netflix, and Profiles—the redesigned experience is active. If not, the device may not have received it or may not support it. One account can show different layouts on different devices; the TV app does not necessarily match Netflix on a phone or web browser. Netflix does not provide a universal device-by-device compatibility list on its help page, so do not assume that a particular model is eligible based only on the account or another screen.

What to do if your interface has not changed
- Confirm that the TV or streaming device is connected to the internet.
- Close Netflix and open it again.
- Check for available Netflix app and device software updates.
- Restart the TV or streaming device.
- Consult Netflix’s device-specific help guidance. If the device should be supported but still shows an unexpected layout, contact Netflix support.
These steps may help with an app that has not refreshed or updated, but they cannot make unsupported hardware eligible. You generally do not need to replace a TV or buy a new Netflix plan just for the redesign.
What the redesign does—and does not—mean
The update is a new TV experience, not a subscription tier. It does not by itself change a plan’s price, add ads to every plan, or guarantee access to every feature in every country. Netflix plans and availability vary by region. Ad-supported plans have separate conditions: ads run before or during select shows and films, cannot be skipped or fast-forwarded during ordinary shows and movies, and some titles may be unavailable because of licensing. The redesign also should not be confused with Netflix’s generative-AI search experiments. The interface update concerns navigation, title presentation, and recommendations; the announcement does not establish that a conversational AI search feature is standard on TVs.
There are trade-offs. Larger featured titles can mean fewer choices visible at once, and viewers who relied on a direct Categories shortcut may need an extra step through Search. A prominent featured selection may feel more promotional than a denser browse screen. Netflix says recommendations can react to viewing actions, but that does not establish that the system works better for every viewer or solve broader frustrations such as titles leaving the catalog.

Games on TV are a separate, beta experience that can depend on country and hardware requirements. Profiles remain important: recommendations are still tied to viewing activity, and changing the interface does not merge profiles or their histories.
